It does what it says. It counts the running time but note that you cannot reset the counter. This means you need to make a note of the count each time you change your oil and save. I surmize this simplifies and keeps it weather proof. This is a disposable item as you cannot replace the battery. At the price point I really cannot complain. * Instructions not written great but a simple process. 1) wrap provided wire around sparkplug cable approx 1.5" from boot and tie down with provided zip tie. 2) insert other end of wire into the slot that runs the length of the device 3) Affix to your mower. My pkg didn't include double sided tape but I had velcro avail which is better. My need to consider moving to a location that doesn't vibrate as much.

The hour meter worked well on my riding lawn mower. It was easy to install. I wrapped the one end of the wire five times around the spark plug cable and then used the included zip tie to secure it. I had wanted to put the meter on the dash by the steering wheel but the wire that came with it was not long enough. That's why this isn't a five star review. I needed another foot or two of wire to run the wire along the frame of the mower the way I wanted to. For now I've used some hook and loop fasteners to secure it to the side of the engine cover. The meter works. One thing to remember after installing this meter is that it only measures in tenths of an hour. That's six minutes for each tenth. After I installed it I started the engine and expected to see the count incrementing. It will, but it takes six minutes for each increment. You do see the hourglass blinking right away.

This is a super straightforward install. You just need a drill and bit for two holes, flathead screwdriver, maybe a pair of pliers for the zip ties, and maybe some electrical tape. Install is simply wrap one end of the wire around the spark plug wire 5 times, then run it up to your meter and stick it in the back of the meter with a flathead screwdriver. I used electrical tape because I couldn't figure out how to zip tie the end onto the spark wire without it coming loose. Be aware it is ALWAYS ON...battery is supposed to last 10 years. So, a few years into this, maybe start paying attention to the overall number of hours and write it down in case you keep your equipment for decades (like a snowblower that gets used a few times per winter). Good value!

I have several of these (under different brand names, but they're the same) and several pieces of gas powered equipment that has no odometer or hour meter to help me track maint intervals. Installation couldn't be easier, wrap a wire around a sparkplug wire, run a wire through the channel in the back of the meter, zip tie or tape in place and you're set. I have been using some of these for close to 10yrs without issue

I ordered this hour meter for the snowblower. Installation is straightforward and easy. The meter inductively picks up the spark plug pulses to determine how many hours the engine has been running. It increases the count every 6 minutes (0.1h). All the hardware is included in the kit. It works as advertised. Simple operation and very useful, especially for equipment that is used seasonally to keep track of operating hours.
