Description

From the imagination of Wizarding World creator J.K. Rowling comes the Fantastic Beasts film series, magical adventures set before the time of Harry Potter. At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.Your Digital Copy redemption code is printed on an insert inside your Blu-ray/DVD package.A Digital Copy is a digital version of the full-length movie that you get when you own specially-marked Blu-ray/DVD discs bearing the “Digital” logo. • Johnny Depp made this wonderful
Unfortunately the sequel I went to see at the theater because Johnny Depp made this so awesome ended up a fail. Part two sucked even though the TV Hannibal actor should have won a five star from me based on how much he killed it literally and figuratively in that series for me. One of my all time favorite TV characters. Unfortunately he ruined the story in the follow up to this latest HP installment. Considering JD got justice in his court trial makes me frustrated more. Why couldn’t the industry waited for a conclusion before ruining the character or this epic series of flix? You can’t fix the F up and I won’t be seeing the next if there is another. F cancel culture. What happened to innocent until proven otherwise. Money grabbing film killing a holes 👎🏼 For the record, I’ve never left such a disgruntled review before. The original books meant a lot to my son and myself. I was hopeful for this next installment. Ruined by the industry choice to jump the gun. Unless they remake the next film with Depp, which they won’t, done. Recommend this wonderful film, not the followup ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💯 ... show more

  • Great Foretelling of the Potter Films - Don't Miss the Bonus Features!
It's November 1927, six months after the end of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", when Macusa finally captured Grindelwald. Now he's being transferred to Europe to stand trial for his crimes on their continent. Remember, as they tied his arms six months before, Grindelwald said, "Do you think you can hold me?" His confidence was not wishful thinking. There's a great escape sequence, and it all takes place before the opening credits, like a James Bond film. The Ministries of Magic in England and France now have two urgent jobs: recapture Grindelwald, and find Credence Barebone. Like the first Fantastic Beast film, this movie has lots of foreshadowing of the days of Voldemort and Harry Potter to come. The best is Nagini, but Nicolas Flamel is a nice touch (see what he has in his cupboard!), and the story of Dumbledore as a young man is a long time coming. The biggest surprise for me, though, and it wasn't a pleasant surprise, was Queenie. Say it isn't so! This set has both a BluRay and a DVD disc (as well as a code for downloading). Both discs have the movie, but the BluRay has many more Bonus Features. If you buy the movie on disc, subtitles and audio are available in several languages, on both the movie and the Bonus Features. Audio Options: English, English Descriptive Audio, French, Spanish. Also Portuguese on BluRay only (not on DVD) Subtitle Options: English, French, Spanish. Also Portuguese on BluRay only (not on DVD) Bonus Features: ...A... "J.K. Rowling: A World Revealed" (10 minutes) Commentators include J.K. Rowling, David Heyman (producer) and David Yates (director). Heyman: "I think Grindelwald is a much more interesting villain than Voldemort.... Grindelwald is, for me, immeasurably scarier, because he persuades, he makes sense, he talks in seemingly rational terms." ...B... "Wizards on Screen, Fans in Real Life" (14 minutes) This is a fun feature – but if you haven't seen the movie, it has spoilers. In August, 2018, Ezra Miller (plays Credence) and Evanna Lynch (played Luna Lovegood) get together to view preview scenes from "Crimes of Grindelwald". One thing they bring up, that I hadn't remembered, was that the first mention of Grindelwald in the movies is in the very first, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". On the train, Harry and Ron open chocolate frog cards. The back of a card with Dumbledore states, "Professor Dumbledore is particularly famous for his defeat of the dark wizard Grindelwald in 1945." ...C... "Distinctly Dumbledore" (10 minutes) New commentators include Jude Law (plays Dumbledore), Colleen Atwood (costume designer), Eddie Redmayne (plays Newt) and Jonny Depp (plays Grindelwald). ...D... "Unlocking Scene Secrets" (49 minutes) If you like the how-they-did-that of films as much as the films themselves, you will really love these. Scenes include Return to Hogwarts, Newt's Menagerie, the Circus Arcanus, Paris and Place Cachée ("hidden square"), the French Ministry of Magic, and Grindelwald's escape and his ring of fire. The French Ministry of Magic feature is the only on on the DVD. If you're wondering, there is a real statue at the location for the entrance to the magical hidden world, but it looks nothing like the skirted woman in the movie. She's 100% CGI. I was disappointed! ...E... "Deleted Scenes" (15 minutes) Ten short scene-lets. Jonny Depp, in Bonus Feature D, says, "No one no matter who they are or how horrible they are, how evil they are, they don't wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and say, 'I'm going to go out and do really bad things today.' No, he's doing what he believes is right at whatever cost." Depp wouldn't have been my first second third or twenty-third choice for Grindelwald, but he did really understand his character. So his Grindelwald grew on me. 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5! "Magic blooms only in rare souls." Happy Reader ... show more

  • An Underwhelming Sequel
The only positive thing that has come out of this worldwide pandemic is that it has provided me with opportunities to revisit some of my favorite stories and discuss/debate about them with my family since, for once, our crazy schedules finally coincide. By the end of June my father decided to watch "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" which came out in theaters back in 2018. I have fond memories of this movie. I went to see on opening night with my friend Ever, and later again with my family. I remember feeling pretty glad and impressed by the film. My only complaint was about the big reveal at the end. I still enjoy the film, but rewatching it made me curious as to why people in general didn't like it. So, I decided to not only see and read a bunch of reviews but also read the screenplay -I originally refused to buy it because I was told I didn't include any extra material. The screenplay provides a little bit of clarity on some scenes and I was able to identify some of the changes made. I would love to read the original version of the script tho given how it seems that a lot of scenes were cut out (I am basing this on the trailers). Let's start with what I liked: 1. They tried to do something different - While not necessarily something new in the Harry Potter franchise, this film attempted to do something different from its previous installment. I find that commendable since the film followed a completely different approach to the first film: it was darker, showed us more beasts, showed us another setting. 2. Newt and Tina: Newt is a fantastic character. I love how quirky and average he is. I love Tina also. And I loved every single scene of them together. Rowling (and the actors) were able to convincingly show the chemistry between them. 3. Jacob: I was so happy to see that Jacob was not just left in the first film. 4. Grindelwald: I was glad that we finally got to see Grindelwald as a villain. And I love how different he is from Voldemort. While Voldemort was blunter and violent, Grindelwald is a master manipulator and I think that makes him a bigger and scarier threat. Now to what I didn't like: 1. The Crimes of Grindelwald - There are no crimes being committed in this film. Except on the opening scene. Other than that, Grindelwald only manipulated people and gave speeches. This might be the reason that... 2. There isn't a lot of action - The story really feels like a lot of back and forth where nothing happens. Upon reading the script without the special effects and the music and all, I felt like we never got to a climax. The story just ends before it begins. It truly feels like the first half of an incomplete movie. 3. Too many characters - The story tried to introduce a lot of new characters and have each of them follow different storylines and then tie them up at the end. But the problem was that other than Grindelwald, none of them are fleshed out. Arguably, Leta has the strongest storyline of the film but the way it was presented and her limited screen time really reduce the impact of her death at the end. Also, she was hyped all the way back to the previous film and she just dies. 4. Yusuf, Nagini, Credence, Dumbledore, Grimson, Theseus - There was no need for any of these characters to appear. Yusuf's storyline was unnecessary and could have been given to Leta to tell the story of Corvus. Nagini was completely pointless. Credence storyline was underwhelming. You mean to tell me that Credence, the big twist in the first film and Grindelwald's secret weapon, the character around the entire mystery was built, only wondered around Paris with Nagini and didn't get his answer??? Also where the hell did Grimson come from??? And Theseus! He was so underused. 5. Queenie - I really liked her character in the first film but she did a complete 180 in this one. First, she roofied Jacob, kidnaped him, made him feel bad that he THOUGHT she was crazy, and just joins sides with the Acolytes without any reason. 6. Dumbledore - Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing him. My problem is that the series protagonist is NEWT SCAMANDER, yet the entire conflict is about defeating Grindelwald whose plan is to kill Dumbledore. They are using Newt to tell Albus's story when they should tell his own (we already know Dumbledore's story from Deathly Hallows). 7. The big twist, the big revelation at the end makes zero sense, and it is 100% likely a lie. Which means that film solved zero conflicts. All of the previous Harry Potter entries (including the infamous Cursed Child) brought closure to the book's mystery. Here the mystery wasn't even answered. Author: J. K. Rowling Rating: 3/5 stars - A story without an ending. ... show more

  • Fun movie!
I liked this, despite some of the negative reviews. Enough of the Harry Potter universe for nostalgia and with good action and acting. Johnny Depp’s hair is bad, but his performance is good. Overall, good!
