    • Sharpen the blade before using it, looked ok but needed more relif angle.
works good for cutting cooling fins and parting off. Still have not broken a blade in aluminum and I am fairly aggressive with the feeds.

Bought this because i needed a parting tool. Just have the bolt down tool holder. Don't have quick lock. Thinking that this was 1/2" size holder rather then 5/8 or 3/4" size for tool holder. Well when they say " mini" that's what they mean. Better for a jewelers lathe or mini lathe. If your looking for a parting tool to do 3-6" chunk of metal then see what else amazon offers that's more sturdy. ... show more

Works Ok, but I had to shim mine in the lathe in order to get the cutter on the lathe center line. The blade is firmly held, but the design holds the blade at the top of the holder, so it’s hard to get the cutting edge on the lathe center line. I got mine to work by shimming the back of the parting tool holder at the rear of the tool post holder, so the parting tool was tipped down slightly.     • Blades are very Thin. Prone to Chatter
The parting blades must be extended to part off effectively. Not a lot of support when the blades are extended more than 1/4". Prone to chatter and flex. OK with Aluminum, but not very good for steel. I guess it does the job for what it is, but I will try something different next time.

The area of the holder between the clamp and support was not flat with the rest of the holder. The machining of this area was not even smooth originally. This means that the cutting blade would not lie flat to the holder (vertical on the lathe). I was able to take a triangular needle file and smooth it out pretty well, and was able to make it work. Additionally, the clamping piece was not well made - it worked without modification but was obviously not shaped 100% properly. There was no tool for the clamp screw. This is not critical, but most of the lathe tools I have bought do come with one. I only mention this because the add included it "COMPLETE WITH ALAN KEY TO LOCK". ... show more
