  • Extremely Difficult, Extremely Satisfying!
Color: Emerald Green
Listen, if you've never done anything electronics related before, I would warn you away from this. The whole swap took me six hours total (three and a half for the swap, two and a half to figure out why my buttons didn't work. More on that later.) But, if you've done a few swaps before, this is absolutely worth it. First, buy yourself a different tool kit and a rubber mat. There is a LOT of screws, and you'll want a better screwdriver, suction cup and spudger set than what ExtremeRate gives you. You'll also need a heat gun - a helping hand with the screen is also recommended as it made the process a lot smoother for me. When following the video, I don't recommend removing the screen first. Unplug your battery, take out your joysticks and most of your internals, THEN remove the screen. Less internals are likely to get overheated that way. Go slow on the lowest setting on your heat gun, don't stop moving around the border of the screen. If you have someone else in your household willing to be an assistant, get them to apply constant gentle pressure upwards with the suction cup while you free the screen, it's a lot easier. Do NOT, under ANY circumstances use any metal tools when lifting the screen and removing the old adhesive, or else you will risk ruining the bezel! The guide itself is very straightforward and helpful aside from that one point of disagreement. I think they do a very good job offering a detailed walkthrough, though they neglect one thing. On the bottom left corner of the motherboard, a small ribbon cable connects the motherboard to the daughterboard, which in turn connects it to every other daughterboard. If your buttons don't work after reassembly, THIS SPECIFIC RIBBON CABLE PROBABLY GOT UNSEATED. It's annoying to get back into the board, but once you do, hopefully you never have to do it again. Overall this was a difficult swap, but extremely rewarding. I love this color shell. The product photo is closer to how it looks in real life, but on camera it looks more blue tinted. It seems that in different lightings the shell is either more green or more blue, which I quite like! I've included a picture that I color corrected to display how the shell looks to me in warm light for reference, others are unedited and just taken with my phone camera. ExtremeRate shells are my favorite, and I'm so glad this one exists. I would have liked to do one of the gradient shells (such as the blue-green one, wow!), but none are available for the OLED. This is a huge oversight, please release the gradient shells for OLED!! ... show more

  • Amazing Upgrade for My Steam Deck OLED!
Color: Clear Slate Black
I recently installed the eXtremeRate Replacement Full Set Housing Shell with Buttons for my Steam Deck OLED, and it has completely transformed the look and feel of my device! This kit is a game-changer for anyone who loves customizing their gear. First off, the quality of the materials is fantastic. The shell feels sturdy, with a premium finish that doesn't pick up fingerprints easily. The buttons are responsive and feel even better than the originals, which was a nice surprise. That said, replacing the front shell is a meticulous process that requires a steady hand and some patience. While the kit includes all the tools you’ll need, be prepared to take your time, especially when dealing with the internal components. If you’re not comfortable with this level of disassembly, I’d recommend watching a few tutorials beforehand or getting help from someone experienced. I went with the transparent shell option, and it looks incredible! It gives the Steam Deck a unique and futuristic vibe that stands out from the standard design. I’ve already gotten compliments from friends who are now considering upgrading theirs too. If you’re looking to add personality to your Steam Deck OLED and are up for the challenge of a careful installation, I highly recommend this housing shell. It’s worth every penny for the fresh look and improved feel! ... show more

  • Good kit.
Color: Clear Atomic Purple
Hells bells. It is a process and you have to use a heat gun to remove the screen. I will wait until I have had some use out of my deck first before I break it :) otherwise the kit is nicely put together.

  • Looks cool but doesn't fully line up
Color: Emerald Green
It's cool but doesn't fully line up. I have a bit of a bulge on one side of the console that won't seem to close up.

  • Great results, great video guide, not too tricky
Color: Clear Atomic Purple
Pretty nice results, only one major difficulty when reassembling (there are very thin plastic pegs at the top, to align the main board, and they're VERY easy to break... but it doesn't really matter if that happens), and a hair dryer is MORE than hot enough. I took some thermal camera pictures out of curiosity, and the glue softened around 140-150F. It needs only a very low temperature, so just point it away from the black plastic frame because it gets hot MUCH faster - pointing straight on, it hit 200F easily. ... show more

  • Awesome Glow in the Dark Shell
Color: Glow in Dark Green
This shell is way better than the stock boring one the steam deck comes with. The glow in the dark on this shell looks awesome! The process takes 3-4 hours or so and the most lengthy process is removing the screen and adhesive. Lots of things can go wrong when doing this so make sure you are very careful and watch ExtremeRate's video. The shell is great quality, but I did notice that near the USB C port one of the Clicky tabs is on the weak side, although not a problem on other shell swaps I have done with their shells. Other than that, it looks soooooo good and I highly recommend it to people who have experience opening and messing with electronics. Plenty of things can go wrong like breaking ribbon cables, breaking haptic feedback plug when unplugging, breaking tabs on the shell, stress fractures on shell if not aligned properly, cracks from over tightening screws, overheating your screen and ruining it, cracking your screen, and the list goes on and on. Just be aware that this is a lengthy process, but ultimately will look great if you take your time. Extremerate provides everything you need with the shell to take the device apart and install the new shell. I reused the screws that came with the original shell and didn't bother with the ones that came with the new shell. Good luck to others out there! ... show more

Very difficult and long process!!! Make sure you have all the tools! But definitely worth the money. I added new sticks and left the old black buttons. Looks amazing
