  • Nostalgic GameCube-Style Upgrade That Showcases My Mod — But Not for the Faint of Heart Nostalgic GameCube-Style Upgrade That Showcases My Mod — But Not for the Faint of Heart
Color: Clear Black
I bought the eXtremeRate Clear Black replacement shell to give my Nintendo Switch Lite a unique, retro Nintendo look — and to proudly show off the modchip I installed. If you’re a fan of transparent electronics (think late-90s/early-2000s Game Boy Color or Atomic Purple controllers), this shell nails the vibe. Difficulty: High — the product description isn’t exaggerating. This is a full disassembly job. Expect 2 hours if you’re experienced, longer if you’re not. Tools Included: Comes with both Y00 and Phillips screwdrivers, a full set of screws, and even a tempered glass screen protector. Tips: Watch an install video first — I paused and replayed multiple times. Use a heat gun or hair dryer on low to remove the screen; too much heat could damage the digitizer. Keep screws organized — there are many sizes. Tweezers make reassembly easier than fingers. Shell Material: Durable ABS plastic that feels solid once assembled. Transparency: Clear enough to see the internals (and in my case, the modchip) but slightly smoky — not perfectly crystal-clear. Buttons: The colored A/B/X/Y buttons are a great GameCube throwback. Tactile feel is similar to OEM, though slightly stiffer at first. Nostalgic Nintendo aesthetic — the colored buttons against the dark transparent shell pop nicely. Back side perfectly shows off my custom work without looking cheap or gimmicky. Matte finish means fewer fingerprints than glossy shells. Pros Unique, premium look that stands out from stock designs. Solid construction; no creaks or misalignments after reassembly. Includes quality extras like a tempered glass screen protector. Perfect for showcasing internal mods. Final Verdict If you’re comfortable tearing down your Switch Lite and want something unique, the eXtremeRate Clear Black shell delivers both nostalgia and personality. This isn’t a quick cosmetic mod — it’s a project. But the result feels worth the effort. Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) Who It’s For: Modders, retro-Nintendo fans, and anyone who wants their handheld to stand out. Who Should Skip: Anyone unwilling to do a full teardown or new to console repair. ... show more

  • Looks cool, works great, not easy Looks cool, works great, not easy
Color: Glow in Dark - Green
The shell is great! Took awhile to come in the mail which kind of sucked but the product was worth the wait. The shell seems durable and was a perfect fit for replacement. It came with all screws needed if you didn’t want to re use the old ones. All in all a great product. Definitely a difficult job though for newbies to the modding world. ... show more

  • Great shell, great color. Great shell, great color.
Color: Clear Black
Holes are not pre-threaded so have a steady hand. quality is actually good, chose to use my own buttons and did a hall affect thumb sticks. It came with a screen protector, extra screws, and the X,Y,A,B buttons. You might want to order membrane buttons for the +,-,home, and screen shot buttons(its easy to lose them :/ from your original switch shell. ... show more

  • Replacement shells are good now!
Color: Clear Atomic Purple
The last full shell replacement I bought was for my DS some 15+ years ago, and I almost immediately regretted installing it - production quality was poor, and I did a bad job installing it on top of that. Until now, I hadn't tried another. But I've heard good things about eXtremeRate, they really seem to know what they're doing. This shell not only looks cool, very close to the original Atomic Purple look, but also fits close to OEM and feels solid, not flimsy at all. The Super Famicom colored buttons are a nice touch, too, I'll always go for those. Unfortunately the card slot dust covers leave something to be desired - they're very rigid and feel like they'll snap if they bend too far. If you can get away with it, you'll want to use the originals. I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for some nicer double-shot plastic covers instead. I also had to grind down the post on my R shoulder button, the fit was too tight otherwise and it wouldn't back off of the microswitch. L button was perfect. Go figure. The installation as a whole is grueling, there's no other way to put it. Clear out more space than you think you'll need and be ready to potentially spend a few hours at it. Take it slow and follow a video guide, especially when you're reassembling the unit. You can't be too careful, all those flat flex cables are daunting if you're not accustomed to working with them. It was moderately stressful when I forgot to plug in the screen backlight and I thought I killed my system. I didn't think I would want the included screen protector with the gray bezel, but the digitizer I bought didn't match near as well as I'd hoped with the purple shell, so I opted to use it after all. Could've saved my money and used the old digitizer. Despite the setbacks, I'm happy with how this shell swap turned out. Might do some retooling in the future, but as it is my Switch Lite looks very cool now, and a little nostalgic. ... show more

Color: Clear Red
so the case itself is pretty light kinda thin but doesn’t feel cheap imo. if you look super close I mean really close you can see how the case is slightly misaligned but honestly for 20 bucks it’s nice. Yes it’s cheap but prepare to sit down for about 2 hours. I saw tons of people recommend to use different screwdrivers than the ones included so I did and overall the outcome is sick. The case looks so good once finished. My ZR button was sticky at first but after time of messing with it it’s now working fine. Watch a YouTube vid, take your time and everything should turn out okay. ... show more

  • Great Upgrade with a Few Extra Steps and Planning! Great Upgrade with a Few Extra Steps and Planning!
Color: Clear Atomic Purple
I recently upgraded my New to me but loved Nintendo Switch Lite using the eXtremeRate Clear Atomic Purple DIY Replacement Shell and I’m really happy with the result. The new shell gives my Switch Lite a fresh, unique look that really stands out. A few tips for anyone considering this upgrade: • Watch Some Tutorials: Although the swap isn’t overly difficult, I highly recommend taking the time to watch a few YouTube tutorials. They provide a clear, step-by-step guide that makes the process much smoother. • Patience is Key: Set aside a good chunk of time so you don’t feel rushed. The process involves careful disassembly and reassembly, and a calm approach helps avoid mistakes. • Thermal Paste is a Must: Don’t forget to purchase some thermal paste! You’ll need it for the heat sink during reassembly to ensure proper heat dissipation. Skipping this step could lead to overheating issues down the line. Overall, the eXtremeRate shell not only looks fantastic but also fits well once installed correctly. With a little preparation and some extra supplies, this DIY project is totally doable and well worth the effort. Happy modding! ... show more

  • Bad Installation Guide Bad Installation Guide
Color: Clear Lime Green
The provided installation guide misleads you into an improper removal of the battery from its connector. My Switch Lite is RUINED and can only be repaired by advanced solder work because of these improper instructions. The battery connector that is factory soldered onto the motherboard was ripped off while following the technique the video installation guide provided. Gentle force was used in an attempt to replicate what was shown in the video. I am by no means a beginner to this kind of stuff, so I am appalled such a thing could happen following instructions. ... show more
