My experience so far has been very positive. The process takes time and focus to maintain the consistency & quality of the blade edge. If the blade is dull it is very helpful to start with the coarse stone to establish the edge angle & then use the medium stone before the finer stone. It takes time to make the edge but the stones do the work. The wider and longer stones are really important when doing larger blades. The quality of the kit is quite nice. The elevated block for holding the stones may still slip on some surfaces but I found just laying a small hand towel under it and with both on a solid cutting board solved that issue. With long, firm, arched strokes and focus on control the edge improves. Keeping the stone wet while working on the edge is important to allow the removed metal to get carried away. I like to just dip and rinse the stone every so often to keep it clean and wet. With practice it is not hard to do. The process is actually rather rewarding when the blade is honed and sharp. These stones are a nice size for the cost. I wish they were longer but I know that would be a larger investment. These do the job.

We bought this for our son and he was able to try it with some knives we had here at home and he enjoyed working with it and sharpening some of pur very dull knives.

The media could not be loaded. You have many stones to choice from to sharpen your knives and when I was done they cut like butter so I would recommend this product it's worth every penny spent on it because my knives are like brand new know

The 1000 and 6000 stones were almost perfectly flat, but arched enough i could push them down when flat and see the give. More unnecessary is the wooden and plastic holder, which I didn't know with this being my first whetstone purchase. You will almost instantly realize that swapping each stone in and out of the plastic container is annoying. Your hands are wet, everything around you is too, and removing the stones is unnecessary. In fact, the stones are large and heavy enough that you will soon realize that you can simply place them on a towel and get to work. No container is necessary.
