Description

The Exploring Piano Classics series pairs motivating performance repertoire with thoughtful technical studies. Each level contains a Repertoire book with CD and a Technique book, both with convenient page-by-page correlation. When used together, the books give students a deep understanding of the art of music, performance practices, and the necessary skills to play the piano with technical ease. The Repertoire books include pieces from the major style periods, selected and graded based on festival, competition, and examination lists from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Background information on each style period, its instruments, composers, and the music itself is included. The CD recordings of the repertoire, performed by internationally known clinician and teacher Nancy Bachus, provide an indispensable tool for appropriate musical interpretation. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music with an M.M. in Piano Performance and Literature, Nancy Bachus has performed solo recitals across the U. S., Canada, and Italy, and appeared in the original "Monster Concerts" in venues such as Lincoln Center and the White House. • Maps to PA mid-Level 3A (triplets, 6/8 time, treble and middle C ledger notes, an E major piece)
My 10 year old son is a *very* solid Piano Adventures Level 2B student, but is a starting Level 3A. We prefer classical repertoire, and we've tried this book, but it's above him at the moment. A piece takes 4 weeks to learn -- which is the same as a recital piece. I like the music history that's included, I like the crispness and size of how the music is printed, and the CD is great. We'll tackle it later when he's more of a senior Level 3A. ... show more

  • Helpful information
I like this series - they have lots of background information on the composers, and also some basic information about the eras of music. Many of the songs will not be familiar to most students, but they are all original compositions which may make some students feel more "important." There is a technic series that goes with each book, but I did not try that. ... show more

This is an excellent collection of pieces for students who are beginning to study classical repertoire. I also like the preparatory book that precedes it.
