I will open this review with a bit of information up front. I am using this with the Ryobi 40v battery expand-it tool which I bought originally with the string trimmer. I had seen this in the lineup but was not sure if it would work so I waited to have a number of reviews. When I saw a few reviews saying that they liked the tiller, I pulled the trigger. I have several raised beds to tend. I will say this is ruggedly built. It has heft and weight. It connects easily and the handle that comes with it is really only good to carry it and not for use with the battery hand grip in a better place for use of this tool. It is so powerful that if you are using it in a raised bed you will want to remove the outer blades and just use the interior blades. It keeps the soil in the bed better. I can go quite deep and once you get the hang of it the job goes quickly. Which brings me to how well does it perform while using the battery pack. I am completely impressed. While it might not last an hour it does last long enough to rip up a lot of soil. Bottom line here is if you have considered getting this to help in your gardens using the battery pack, I recommend you buy it. You will not regret it. I do not know how it works with the gas powered expand-it systems but if it works as well with battery power it should work well there as well. ... show more

It’s a little annoying using this thing on the Weedwhacker because of the side angle you have to stand at but it definitely does its job. You pull the unit backwards to operate so let off the gas before you move it forward again. It does create nice sowing rows but I’m using it to til the earth completely. Easy to assemble. My used unit needed a new rivet put in so it clicks to storage hangar and clicks into trimmer shaft. No big deal. Fairly heavy due to one hand holding most of the weight. I have a mantis with two handed operation I will probably use going forward, but that’s a 600 dollar unit. I got this for 100. Worth that price for sure, but remember you’re supporting the Chinese economy with Ryobi products. If you want to keep prices down and jobs up, buy American. There are a lot of American made yard machines out there. ... show more

    • Not quite a tiller
I use this cultivator attachment with my 40v Ryobi Expand It head. It works well. The batteries last for anything I need and the tool itself really does a good job of churning loose dirt. It cannot effectively till new ground.

    • DO NOT BUY - RYOBI IS ABOUT THEFT BY DECEPTION
If you want to be ripped off, Ryobi is a great way to make this happen. Any of their tools you buy on Amazon will not be warrantied, even if it "says it is". Only tools purchased through Home Depot are. This is theft by deception. The Ryobi tools I have, well, the ones I like are great, most are trash. This cultivator is really not meant to do any real work. If you have loose dirt to push around, it is great for that. A rake you can buy for $20 does about as good. Mine broke down on the 5th use and was told after a 2 hour drive to their closest disservice center that no warranties are honored unless bought by Home Depot. I don't do business with dishonest companies. Ryobi is obviously one of those to me. So if you want to buy something foolishly with a "taillight guarantee", this is definitely for you. ... show more

Tiller ahead works as advertised. Good for small projects. Takes a little muscle to make sure it doesn't get away from you when it's operating. I definitely recommend this product.
