  • Ugh.
Disappointed and disturbed. It only took me 5 minutes to see this book is written from a heavily modern Progressive/Communist slant, going on and on about progressivism (though true progressivism in the 1800's was a helpful ideal, not the Communist hijacked Democratic Party of today). In fact the definition this book gives Communism is a system where the people own and control everything. If you think you believe this make sure to read the Communist Manifesto and research Marx, Lenin and Stalin. It also gives suspiciously incomplete definitions of facism and socialism. There is a decidedly negative attitude towards America in this book, of course suggesting imperialism, since that is a favorite accusation of modern Progressives. Also, it states that the first Thanksgiving is a "myth." This is the revisionist history being taught in our schools. It's meant to destroy our sense of nationalism and move us into global Socialism...Communism. Do NOT take any history book first printed in this century for truth without doing research. I like Abeka history curriculum for one excellent alternative. ... show more

  • Content very disappointing.
Very disappointed with the content of book since the author has chosen to decide what is or isn’t a myth in our American history. A young reader will come away with the author’s viewpoint and not the facts.

  • I Agree with Other Reviewers
This book is from a revisionist point of view. If you want real American history, keep looking.

  • An Awesome Book For Those Of Us Who Forgot Most of What We Learned In Middle School
I have really enjoyed this book, which I bought for myself because I had forgotten most of what I learned in middle and high school. I found myself unable to recall why some wars were fought, what the Industrial Revolution was about, etc. I went online to see if I could find a book to help me refresh my memory and came across this one. It has been everything I wanted and more. I love the way it is presented- almost like real school notes - and how the author doesn’t overload us with too many details. The pages are colorful and fun. I love this book and have enjoyed refreshing my memory. I also plan to buy the Science version of this book. This is a definite winner and I highly recommend it for students or for adults like me who have forgotten some of what they learned 30+ years ago. ... show more

  • SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER USING TO HOMESCHOOL MY KIDS
I am a NYS Social Studies teacher who left public school teaching to homeschool my own sons. I was very impressed with this US History book - all of the important concepts are covered, and we supplement with research if they want to dive deeper into a specific subject for a project. I bought a set of all of the "Everything You Need To Ace..." books to use with homeschooling my two middle-school-age sons. They are concise, include nice graphics and checking for understanding questions at the end of each section. It is reassuring to know that once my sons have mastered these books, they will have a good base going into high school. ... show more

  • Excellent Source for Homeschooling
I'm using this to assist me in homeschooling my son. It is so well-organized and written, and the questions at the end of each chapter are very useful in checking a student's understanding of what he or she has just read. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who is homeschooling.

  • Notebook style history study guide
502 pages of history fun! This little book is so informative, it's advertised for middle school kids as a study guide. It's like getting a notebook from the smartest kid in class. Layed out just like a notebook with different color highlighters for different points (See photo). I actually bought this for myself saw it in a store and flipped through it, ordered from Amazon the next day. If you've got a middle schooler this book will really help them understand history. Love this book. I hope they come out with a high school level notebook too. You're never too old to brush up on history! ... show more

  • Great for homeschool
This is an excellent reference and study book for middle school. We homeschool, and I bought it for my seventh grader for her American History course, not really knowing what to expect. It really does cover everything in a concise, well organized, easy to understand format. We are using it as a kind of outline for our American History course, reading through each chapter, discussing the review questions, then using other sources (web, books, documentaries) to learn more/dig deeper into the people and events covered in the book. I have found it to be a very helpful planning/organizational tool and guide to American History, and I will definitely be purchasing Everything....World History when we study it. ... show more
