Will not stay connected for more than an hour or so, then randomly reconnects several hours later.. Does not matter if it's in the same room 10 feet away or 20 feet away through one wall. Works great the 2-hours per day it's actually accessible, but the other 22 hours out of the day it's worthless... EDIT/UPDATE: 29 days later and the battery already needs to be replaced. EDIT/UPDATE 9 months after purchase it stopped working and would not turn back on - just tossed into the trash. absolute waste of money. ... show more

    • A good weather sensor that is both Thread and Matter enabled (with some minor gripes)

The Eve Weather is a robust little temperature and humidity sensor which can be used anywhere indoors or outdoors. (Although I recommend not mounting it outside in direct sunlight, since the black case would likely heat up very quickly and perhaps exceed its specified temperature range.) The Eve Weather sensor is easily added to your smart home platform directly - in my case, I am using Apple Home. But since it connects via Thread, your system must have a Thread-enabled hub for the water sensor to connect. For Apple users, if you have a HomePod or Apple TV, you already have a Thread hub built-in (check with your specific device). For connectivity that may be a bit further than your hub's location, you may want to also get a Thread border router (like the Eve Energy smart plug, or any similar Thread-enabled device). Only Thread-items that plug in can do this. Battery operated Thread devices like Eve Weather are "endpoints" and can only receive Thread signals. Eve Weather is also Matter enabled and should work with a variety of different platforms. Technically, you can install this directly in Apple Home without the need for the Eve app - everything will work just fine. But you'll definitely want the app to change settings like the readout from Celsius to Fahrenheit, to download firmware updates, and to set the Thread transmission level. The default setting for that is "medium", but if you want to extend battery life, and if you are close enough to a Thread border router, set it to "low". Setting it to "high" will surely reduce battery life. The Eve app is recommended, since it doesn't make you set up a profile or password. You can use it without all that. (Eve says their system stresses privacy and I think the app is one example of this. So why not 5 stars? Well, even though battery life is supposedly around 1 year, just downloading that first firmware update ate 5% of the new battery's life. After the update was installed, I had to reset all the settings again (back to Fahrenheit, to "low", etc.). You can also use the Eve app to set the approximate altitude where it is located (in 100-foot increments - very general). Why it doesn't use something simple like a ZIP code is unknown. Also, it would have been better if there were an option for a USB-C connection to have this plugged in rather than rely solely on battery power. Of course that wouldn't work for outdoor placement, but I put mine in my indoor garage and it could easily be plugged in. For the price of this sensor, that should be an option that was designed in. With a previous battery-powered Eve sensor, the battery door became a problem. It would not latch and the foam insert that held the battery in place deteriorated quickly, even in indoor use. Eve replaced it twice before I gave up on it entirely. I am hoping this design was improved with the Eve Weather, but will not know until it comes time to change its battery. (And will it last a year? I hope so. I've done everything in the settings to reduce it's power consumption to the lowest settings while still connecting to the smart home platform. We'll see.) But so far, I can recommend the Eve Weather and its accompanying app as a simple solution to not only add an indoor/outdoor weather sensor to your system, but through Thread and Matter, it can be connected to any variety of automations that are triggered by changes in temperature or humidity. ... show more

I wanted a temperature and humidity sensor for my porch that would connect to my Apple Home. And that’s what it did. Things I like, 1) no account needed to setup, 2) all I had to do was click add accessory within Apple Home and scan the sticker, 3) it works on Matter. One small con: it’s automatically setup for Celsius and I needed the Eve app to change it to Fahrenheit. ... show more

I wanted a temperature sensor for my patio. Sadly, I could never get the sensor to be read on my network. I have several Apple HomePods which have the network needed for this product but the network is so finicky that it was never readable, despite buying a separate Eve smart plug which supposedly would help boost the network. The Eve products rely on a lower battery consumption network that sadly doesn’t have much strength in distance. I am going back to devices that run on normal WiFi. ... show more

I purchased this because the "Matter" in the title made me thing this was matter-compatible. It's not, at least not out of the box. There is no matter code anywhere with the device, only homekit codes. You can only pair this to a Homekit system. Only then, from what I understood, can you update it and maybe attach it to another system. I have home assistant and a large matter/thread network running, but no homekit device to set it up, so I'm returning it. ... show more

I placed these in several locations in our 5th wheel. One by the power inverters and batteries, bedroom and living room. Nice large letters to view. They hang from a hook, then I placed a small piece of adhesive velcro on the sensor and the wall to keep them in place when traveling.
