  • Bulletproof if you follow directions
Size: 2" x 50' Color: White
I can't recommend this stuff enough. It's the best RV roof sealant I've ever used, and I've been using it for over 18 years. In 2007 I bought an older truck camper that has a metal roof with two full-width seams running laterally across it. About a year after I bought it one or both of those seams started leaking. I read up on possible solutions and somewhere read about Eternabond. It was 18 years ago so I don't even remember where I'd first heard about it. But I bought some, sealed both of those seams, and it has never leaked a drop since. I still have that camper and just used it a couple of weeks ago on a trip to the desert. One night it poured rain. I sat inside, cozy, warm and dry. After EIGHTEEN years!! That's how good this stuff is. The caveat is that you have to follow directions. If you're one of those guys who buys something, installs it and reads the directions later, you probably shouldn't bother with Eternabond. There are things you need to know about it. First, the area where you're laying it down needs to be clean and dry. I scrape off all old sealant first and then go over the entire area where the Eternabond will go with Acetone on a rag. Acetone works great. It gets the area clean and evaporates quickly. Second, don't apply Eternabond unless it's at least 70 degrees outside. It's very sticky, but the colder it is outside the less sticky it is. I believe their instructions say you can apply it in colder weather than that, and below 40F or so they have a primer you can use to make it stick better when it's cold. But I've never used that. I prefer to just apply it when it's warm - as I said, at least 70F. There is a clear plastic layer over the gummy part that you remove as you're laying it down. Once you get it laid down, go over it with a hand-held roller, applying downward pressure over all of it. The pressure activates the bonding process. You can also run it over the top of other Eternabond (like where corners meet) and it will stick great to itself. Finally, run a bead of caulk along the leading edges of it, the edges toward the front of your rig. The reason for this is that over several years and many miles, the high winds hitting it from traveling can start to peel the front of it up. It's an extremely slow process, but if you put that bead of caulk down it will protect the leading edge from the wind and you won't have that problem. Besides using it on that camper, I've also used it on my 5th wheel, as recently as 6 months ago. I used it to hold down a sheet of 22 mil billboard vinyl over the entire roof, all cut to fit over all vents, skylight, etc. This rig is no longer mobile and is used solely as guest quarters these days so I didn't need something as sturdy as rubber roofing. I tore all the degraded EPDM off of it and replaced it with billboard vinyl, all held down by Eternabond. Since then we've had some very heavy rain storms and some significant wind, and it's been perfect. No more leaks, no more trouble. I'm a huge fan of Eternabond. ... show more

  • Slide out repair
Size: 2" x 50' Color: White
This is oddly one of the most difficult topics to research. Answers are on each extreme as to whether to use this or not. After weeks of trying to figure out the best path to repair my slide out, I decided to check with a local dealer. Specifically a repair technician. He said eterna bond was a great product that they also use. Not shown in recommended to buy is the eterna cleaner and primer. I'm heading to the campground in a few days so I asked for a plan B. He suggested an automotive degreaser that they had on the shelf. I asked him if they would use this in place of the first recommendation. Without hesitation, he said yes. He told me to clean it up and allow it to evaporate. I should point out that I repaired a slide out seam on the outside edge. The factory started to wear out from rubbing on the screw heads. I asked if it would be best to remove the old or if I can stick it over the existing. He said it's ok to go over the top if it's wider than the factory tape. I cleaned it up nicely then started to stick the tape. Yes, it's extremely sticky and you can't unstick it so go slow and be careful. Important to work out the evenness and bubbles as you go, and make sure to press it thoroughly as you go. Images posted. I then asked if I should caulk by where the fascia meets, and he said it's a good idea. Then I asked about caulking the inside, towards the camper. He said it's a good idea but not completely necessary. If you do, use some soapy water and your finger to smoothen it out so it doesn't catch on the rubber gasket. Works great. Takes some finesse to put it down but can easily be done if you take your time. Don't use self leveling caulk. That's for sure. This particular tech highly recommend what's in the picture. Only use it for what it's intended. Seam repair. Don't cover the entire roof or go around roof top openings. Good luck and stay dry! ... show more
