Estwing's long handle Drilling Hammer has a bonded and molded Shock Reduction Grip which offers the utmost in both comfort and durability, while reducing vibrations caused by impact. The head and handle are forged in one piece and have an attractive blue UV coating, both faces are fully polished. For use with chisels, punches, star drills and hardened nails. Permits heavy blows with limited swing.

I use this hammer professionally on a daily basis to get metal parts to go into or out of other metal parts as a trailer mechanic. It has worked extremely well for this purpose. My last hammer was a steel head with a wooden handle and I was concerned for the safety of everyone around each time I would swing it. I was apprehensive about going with an all steel hammer due to vibrations but the rubber material works amazingly well to dampen vibrations. The hammer itself is very well balanced and feels natural to swing. The finish comes off easily with the metal on metal contact I use it for but it doesn’t seem to be damaging the hammer physically. This hammer is nigh unto perfection when it comes to drilling hammers. As a drilling hammer, this hammer shines brightest when pounding chisels, stakes, or very large punches, but it is also great for demolition and, to a lesser extent, metalworking. At 4 pounds, the head of this hammer hits like a mini sledge, and the longer handle means you get more power at the sacrifice of accuracy. I have used this hammer in shaping metal, although it really isn't designed to be a blacksmith's hammer due among other things to the fact that the handle is not a consistent size and shape throughout so you can't comfortably grip it up closer to the head. The grip is very tacky, oil resistant, and durable, and I will probably replace it with leather once it wears off (after ten years). The full metal shank means that it will probably take three lifetimes'-worth of overstrikes to break the head off, and I'll be happy to leave that job up to my grandchildren. I haven't had any trouble with the head being too soft, and will update this review if I do. Overall, this has been a fantastic hammer so far and it has been well worth paying twice as much as I would have for one with a fiberglass handle. ... show more
