I got this for my 81 yr old mother, because she broke her back, and she keeps shrinking and can barely see over a table to eat or play bingo lol. It definitely helps and she really likes it!!! It's very light weight so she can even carry it, although there's no handle so that makes it hard to hold, but she tied a elastic cord around it and carries it that way. This is a great FIRM cushion. Is helpful for sciatic pain when seated. Suggestion: a built in handle on an edge would be useful for toting it!

I recently had a hip replacement and have been using this cushion in the car and at home on several different chairs. I bought another style, but it didn’t fit on smaller chairs. This one is great in my office, at the dining table, and on our patio chairs. I’m a little heavier than many and this cushion has held up well. There is a zipper on the cover that will be helpful when the day comes to wash it. So far, only a bit of dog hair on it. :) ... show more

I was between preferred options in terms of more advanced cushions and really needed to get something that could work for my daily wheelchair use. This Essential Medical Supply Rehab 1 Cushion with Higher Density for Additional Support is an affordable entry-level option that is probably best for those with very basic cushion needs. For those who need stronger support to prevent pressure sores, this is not a viable option. This is an 18"x16" cushion that fits nicely in my wheelchair. It's 4" thick and this is what I've been used to and really needed. This is also an Amazon's Choice. The fill material is foam. The cover is machine washable. If you're someone who needs basic cushion support, I think this is a tremendous option. It's soft but also has some firmness to it. I had some difficulty using it in the wheelchair as I transfer by holding onto the chair and I found this cushion had a little too much give to it. While it's considered a "medical" cushion, I'm not sure I see it as effective for a wheelchair user other than, perhaps, those who are primarily stationary and don't have active lifestyles. I find it reasonably comfortable for short-term use, however, on the occasions I've used it for an entire work day I've been less happy with it. For those sitting in chairs at home or office chairs, I can definitely see this being an effective and affordable option. Overall, I found this to be a decent short-term option but I was definitely happy when I was able to move to a more customized cushion specific to my support needs. However, this cushion from Essential Medical is a solid entry-level cushion for basic support needs that don't involve pressure sores or ulcers. ... show more
