It’s cheap, and it’s plastic - which means it’s roughly perfect for tiny hands. Obviously the sound isn’t going to be concert-grade, nor will this hold value for posterity - but it will make your toddler happy, and won’t leave you worried about whether he’s taking good care of it. The instrument itself is made of stiff plastic, perhaps a little more rigid than I’d like in a toy given my hard flooring situation (something a little softer would be both quieter and more durable, I suspect). But the stiffness generates decent acoustics, meaning it’s loud enough to hold interest. The strings are also plastic, and are actually two pieces doubled back at the bottom, rather than four independent strings. Thus, the top two “strings” are one piece of plastic, as are the bottom two. They tune with modest independence despite this, though obviously tightening one will inevitably affect another to some degree. I doubt your kid cares, as tuning doesn’t really change the way the ukulele sounds when it’s smacked against your wall. It’s lightweight, which makes it easy to carry and handle, and also generally reduces the destructive force behind it when swung. But remember, force is mass times acceleration, so don’t let the kid swing it too fast or it’s still going to pack a wallop. In all seriousness though, it’s really nicely sized for kids, and they’ll appreciate that. The finish is a high quality sticker on the front, with nothing more than some light texturing on the brown plastic back and sides. From the front it looks pretty good, from other angles it’s immediately evident it’s plastic (not that anyone would ever mistake this for the real deal). All in all, a pretty nice toy for the target audience. Some supervision is required, but you shouldn’t be looking at too much trouble from this little guy. ... show more

I understand it’s a kids toy but I was expecting a bit more from it. Even with tuning it still sounds “cheap” but for the price it’s a win regardless. My toddler twins love playing with it and I’m happy to see the pick is attached otherwise that would go missing in 2 seconds lol.

This plastic toy ukulele is great for a toddler. The whole thing is plastic and seems sturdy enough to handle moderate abuse by most terrors- I mean toddlers. It's not a real instrument really so if that's what your looking for this is not it. This is simply a plastic toy with plastic strings. The strings can be plucked and they do make sound. The frets even seem to have the correct spacing. Despite this the strings don't really tune too well and if they did, the action (string height from the fretboard) is way too high and sounds more like a weird sitar than a ukulele. It's great as long as you're expecting a toy and not a real instrument. I only wanted something for my 3 year old Goddaughter to strum along with me while I play my guitar. This way I don't have to worry about my guitars getting all covered with the sticky "essence of toddler". Plus, full size guitars aren't exactly easy for her to hold. 5 stars for the ability to keep a toddler away from my guitars while entertaining and maybe even sparking an interest in learning an instrument. I recommend it, as long as your expectations are toy-based and not ones of a tunable, real instrument. ... show more

it's a kids toy, NOT. a ukulele. it's about 3/4 size of a ukulele. and doesn't tune well. the neck bends when under tuned tension. i gave it 4 stars because i realize now it's actually a kids toy and not a cheap ukulele like i expected. but a warning to anyone else that misunderstands the page.

Great little instrument for a child to play around with. I guess I wanted more out of it, but at the price point I should have known that we really can't tune it. It puts out okay sound and has all of the elements of a real instrument. It is fun for my daughter to play and imitate our friend on his guitar. The attached pick is super smart, otherwise it would have gotten lost after the first time. A great play instrument that can help teach fundamentals of a real instrument. ... show more

My 7 year old daughter has been asking for a guitar, but I question her commitment to playing it (or will it just become another item in her room that sits there?) She unboxed it last night and was very happy with it. It's lights and the size is perfect. We tuned it (we'll have to tune it again, I've heard new ukuleles need to be tuned more often when they are new).
