I bought this set once before. The molds are fantastic! They were easy to release and easy to put back into shape. The board is a little thinner than I'd like, but if done right and I take my time, I'm able to do layers. I'm happy with my purchase.

nice set of molds to make the chess pieces. you do have to be really careful to get all the bubbles out, especially with the top of the bishop and rook. watch for bubbles with the checkers and board molds too. some of the chess molds were not fully round at the bottom, (probably due to just the way any mold would warp due to it laying on its side) but its not really noticeable in the final product. it was a pain in the butt to remove the molds when it was done, especially the king. work slowly and get someone with smaller fingers to help! 1 cup of epoxy was enough to fill one color of the chess pieces, the checkers pieces, and just enough to fill a thin layer of color for the board. maybe make a little bit over 1 cup of epoxy resin, just to thicken the color of the squares on the board. 2 more cups of clear epoxy resin was enough to finish the board, so you'll need a little over 4 cups total to complete a set of chess and checkers pieces, plus a board. my daughter can't wait to make another set! ... show more

I have purchased this mold twice now. The first time my yellow stuck to the mold and it was destroyed. The second time it came out perfectly. At $20 a piece and the common description of stuck resin, the value for the product is not there if it’s only good for one time. Even on the second one some of the sides caught but small enough pieces I can sand down in future boards. Chess pieces are great just make sure to give a good massage to each piece to get out any air bubbles. Ordered two more on expectations of my current one ripping again. Wish there was something studier but have yet to find something. Some pieces are crooked as well but have been able to sand down base with no problem to even them out. ... show more

I thinned my resin out some after reading the comments by setting the mixing cup in warm water (I use amazing clear cast resin), that and pinching the molds made sure I didn't have any problems with air bubbles in the pieces. It was very difficult to un-mold the pieces, I used a little dish washing soap and water to help them slip out which seemed to work really well. The board poured pretty easily and came out very nice. The chess pieces are difficult to remove. As others have said drip some baby oil or coconut oil in and massage it on down to get the mold to release. I’ve seen others talk about the smallness regarding depth of the squares. Yes, they aren’t that deep so just use a small paper cup or similar so you have control over the pour. As for adding the second color, there is no need to try to fill the squares adjacent to those you just poured. Let the first dry and then Simply pour the second color on the back. It will fill in the second set of holes. So what if the back is all one color. Work smarter, not harder. ... show more

I purchased the 16 piece set. The pieces are matte. They are not shiny like the board. Which I figured because before I poured them, I noticed the inside of the mode are not shiny. Also, on the set that I bought, it is hard to get the pieces out of the mold often times they break. that part is probably a trial error. I will try that again. Overall, ok set but they are not shiny like I wanted them to be so if that’s what you want you too maybe try a different supplier. Maybe the other options have shiny pieces but I don’t know. There were slight air bubbles which led to cracks in the pieces but otherwise the molds were easy to use! You do need to be careful to pour slowly to make sure they fill correctly.
