  • Great concept but leaks
Color: Cobalt Blue Style: 20x24" City Picker
Bought one of these for a fire escape garden. It’s a wonderfully useful self-watering box and my garden has been happily growing. The problem is after 3 months the box base has started leaking water. This means that I need to add more and more water regularly. I’m not sure if the self- watering feature is going to last one season. Perhaps I got a dud. Would not buy again. ... show more

  • Works well but 2 wheels quit turning
Color: Cobalt Blue Style: 20x24" City Picker
Works well & keeps plants moist. After one year, two of the wheels completely froze up. WD-40 did not help. In the fall I cleaned them out and put them in the garage. I have no idea where to get replacement wheels that won’t do the same. I don’t know how to pull the other ones out either

  • UPDATE! SEE BELOW ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Color: Cobalt Blue Style: 20x24" City Picker
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I purchased several of these boxes last year and over the winter my mulch covers broke down between the cold wet weather and the squirrels chewing on the fabric. I have been looking for months now online to find replacement covers and there are not any sold online or in stores anywhere. So disappointed, so instead I would recommend buying Earth boxes. At least with that company you know you can get replacement parts when you need them. ***UPDATE:*** Finally the covers are now back in stock for these boxes! I don’t know if it was a covid issue or what the exact problem was, but now I can get back to my gardening in the Spring in the way that these boxes were intended to be used. Very happy for that. Would be nice if these boxes were a bit deeper, but if you support the plants in a creative way ( I tie trellises up to my deck railings behind the boxes, then tie twine around the front feet and trail them up over the box to the trellis which is for growing pickling cucumbers and tall cherry tomato plants), you can get amazing results and get a very large amount of veggies coming out of each box. ... show more

  • Good the first year, but as noted by other reviewers, no replacement covers
Color: Cobalt Blue Style: 20x24" City Picker
Saw one of these in HD one day and on impulse decided to give it a try. On the plus side, all went well the first year. It's nice that it has casters on it, because one of these things is really hard to move once it's full of wet growing medium! The tomatoes I grew in it were great. However, since replacement covers seem to be impossible to get, starting in year two it turned into a major pain to use. I fashioned a cover from a trash bag last year, but that caused trouble when it came off mid-season. I's pretty hard to cover one of these boxes when you have a couple of large tomato plants in the way. I'm really not sure what the people who run this company are thinking, and I'm not sure why HD continues to sell these things. Why sell a product ostensibly designed to last for years and then not supply the very thing you need to use it after the first year? I've been using Earth Boxes for years and have gotten great results. They sell replacement covers, and they work well. Decided this year that I'll just treat the City Picker like a big pot. No way it would work without the cover for something as thirsty as tomatoes, but maybe herbs will work... I would never buy another one of these. ... show more
