  • The smell was just like a trip back to my high school days!
The cologne must’ve been exposed to high temperatures in route. It was just a little over half full when I received it. However, I’m not disappointed because it is exactly what I was hoping for! Thank you! Sherrilyn Gregersen

  • Vintage scent for older folks who wore it way back when
First of all, for reference I will identify myself as a 40 year old male ... so likely I am not the intended audience for this scent. There is nothing at all subtle or refined about this scent. It's a powerful wrecking ball of vintage "old-man smell". In order to appreciate this cologne, you likely have to be of the age that you wore it growing up and want a comfortable nostalgic scent. Just as someone who crew up in the 1990's has an odd affinity for Drakkar Noir, Joop or CK1 ... this will find it's target in the 1950's - 1970's crowd. It smells like the interior of your grandfather's Buick Skylark. Before I get into what the actual scent notes are ... if you are buying this for the Pheromone aspect ... aka: you believe it will help you magically attract members of the opposite sex ... don't. That's rubbish. It is true that some studies show that human chemistry does include pheromone substances that attract members of the opposite sex. However, that is usually one's own body producing those. The pheromones in this likely come from the backside glands of deers or rabbits, which are purely a gimmick. Shame on any cologne company for marketing using this completely erroneous assumption that they would help attract members of the opposite sex. This cologne is weighted down with heavy notes of clove and spice. There is a root-beer or sassafras style sweetness as well as an almost hidden leathery note which may also be petroleum/motor oil. A bit of wood is also present until the dry down. After an hour, this gets a bit less spicy and more powdery/sweet. I don't detect any floral notes. If they are there, they are so synthetic, I miss them. The longevity of this is amazing, which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your appreciation of the scent. This will cling to you all day ... 8 hours. Even handwashing is no match for Elsha. Who would best be suited for this would be an older crowd who is used to it. If you want a cologne that walks into a room before you do ... and leaves long after, this is your bottle. One must understand that in the 50's and 60's colognes were hyper-masculine and relied on cheap processes to ensure that the cologne would last all day long. Through the 1970's you did not have many options when it came to cologne. All the mass marketed scents had this overdrive spicy woodiness ... from Hai Karate, to Stetson to Old Spice or English Leather. It wasn't until the 1980's when less-expensive colognes started to become more creative and different. Folks with means would buy the Eau de Sauvage, Creed or Floris scents ... the middle class would try to recreate those scents inexpensively ... the result of which was this. The packaging is abhorantly cheap. It's literally a cheap, clear, square bottle with a label sticker applied ... in many cases not even straight. Even dollar store designer-imposter scent colognes are packaged better. This comes in a plain cardboard box with a cooked Elsha sticker. This would not be packaged for gift giving. Overall, if you've never worn this before, there is no reason to start. If you are accustomed to this scent and a lover of the strong vintage colognes of yore ... from a retro standpoint, you may celebrate that this cologne still exists. It is not at all subtle or refined or elegant. Likely people will be reminded of their grandparents when they smell this on you. For what it is ... a throwback scent, it does what it should. It will last all day and cling to your clothes weeks later. I would never buy a bottle of this stuff ... in fact, I gave my bottle to my neighbor who is in his 70's, drinks store-bought Tom Collins mix and can fix anything with his set of Craftsman tools from the 1960's. He loves it. ... show more

  • Grandpa status 👴
Oh my goodness. I'm 35 years old and I was randomly browsing new scents and I should have read more reviews. Got it in the mail and before I spray any cologne I sniff the spray area before applying. Already dressed getting ready to leave to work I wanted to see how it smelled. Got to pressing down the button nothing was spraying but had a leak under the cap. Running down my arm and dripped on my clothes. It smelled like old leather and cigar ashes. Got to work and people looking around sniffing. Even women in they 60's said " somebody smell like old folks home " ... show more
