Description

Jam on and on (and on) with the same premium electric bass guitar strings that experienced players worldwide trust to keep their incredible tone longer than any other string available. Specially developed based on in-depth feedback from more than a thousand bass players just like you, our tailor-made selection of bass strings proudly includes nickel-plated and stainless steel construction options, four-, five- and six-string sets, long and extra-long scales, and virtually every gauge range you could possibly need. All with our innovative string coating technology. And unlike other string brands, Elixir Strings coats the whole string. This protects not only the outer string surface but also the gaps between the windings where common tone-deadening gunk typically builds up in other brands’ coated and uncoated guitar strings. Who wouldn’t love more quality playing time between the hassle and cost of string changes? Premium by design, these electric bass guitar strings constructed with nickel-plated steel wrap wire boast a rich, rounded tone with incredible clarity and a heavy mid-range presence. Meanwhile, the ultra-thin NANOWEB Coating, redesigned specifically for bass guitars, allows a smooth, natural feel that also enhances grip and reduces finger squeak. For a brighter bass tone, try our Stainless Steel Bass Strings with NANOWEB Coating. Of course, the kind of string you play is all a matter of personal preference. Not sure what tone is right for you? Try them out for yourself, and find your new favorite string from Elixir Strings. Frequently asked questions

Elixir Strings for 5-String Bass are known for their distinctive tone. They are made of nickel-plated steel, a material that is renowned for its bright, vibrant sound. These strings also feature Elixir's patented NANOWEB coating, which provides a smooth, comfortable feel while protecting the strings from dirt, sweat and corrosion. This means your strings will last longer and maintain their tone better than uncoated strings.

These strings are designed for a long scale bass. Long scale typically refers to a bass with a scale length of 34 inches or more. This makes them suitable for most standard 5-string bass guitars.

The set of Elixir 5-string bass strings comes in a light gauge, which ranges from .045 to .130. This gauge is fairly common for 5-string basses and gives a balanced tone with good flexibility and response.

While technically you could use four of the five strings on a 4-string bass, these strings are specifically designed for use on a 5-string bass. If used on a 4-string bass, you may not receive the optimal sound or playability intended by the manufacturer.

  • Costs more but lasts twice as long
Size: Lt, Long Scale (.045-.130) Style: 5 String Set Pattern Name: Strings
After years of using Ernie Ball Regular Slinky’s for 5-string bass, I decided to try these Elixirs. They cost twice as much but they last twice as long so overall no change in the expense. Plus the added benefit of not having to physically change strings as often, which as we all know takes time to do! Plus they sound better to me. The best way to describe it is bright, rich, and warm all at the same time. ... show more

  • Best strings, will never use anything else
Size: Lt, Long Scale (.045-.130) Style: 5 String Set Pattern Name: Strings
I’d always used DRs which were fine but then a bandmate who used to play bass gifted these to me, and wow. I am blown away by the tone and longevity of these strings. I’m on month 7 without changing them, they look like dirty beat up old strings at this point but still sound great. A couple different sound guys have told me they love my bass tone in the past couple months. Elixirs nail that perfect goldilocks zone between warm and bright. I’ll probably get some new ones soon, obviously they are brighter at first but quickly settle into that awesome tone zone. Nice to have found the perfect strings instead of “good enough” and always wondering if something better is out there. One less thing to GAS over. ... show more

  • Initial Thoughts .... Excellent - UPDATED
Size: Lt Medium, Long Scale (.045-.105) Style: 4 String Set Pattern Name: Strings
Only been playing bass for three years, changed strings 3 times. Started with the original fenders a year and then switched to Elixirs (brighter) on my Am Special P-Bass. Last time had mediums, this time I tried super light. Interesting that these have more mids than the mediums. Was able to lower the action; had to loosen the truss rod a bit and adjust my EQ (flatter now, the mediums had some boom that I needed to take out using the parametric EQ). Just put them on today, so we will see, but nice feel, sound great and I think I am going to have less left hand stress since I can play lighter. Maybe I will finally get some speed :) They do bend easier, but think I will adjust to that. Update: Got a new bass for my birthday with EMG-X pickups (NS Design Radius) and D'Addario EXL170's. I swapped them out the original strings (still new) for a set of Elixir super-lights. Lost tone. Record before and after (same settings on guitar and amp) and it was obvious that the Elixir's sounded thin. I tried some EQ adjustments and got an ok sound, but just not the same tones I was getting before. I tried a year old set of medium Elixirs; sounded a bit different, but still did not have that thick tone of the original strings. The Radius has an all maple body and graphite re-enforced maple neck, it is also headless, has a piezo in addition to the two active EMG's plus tuners on the bridge (strung upside down); so, completely different beast than the p-bass. Shame, I like the feel of the Elixir super lights. Maybe that the D'Addario's are nickel wrapped vs nickel coated. Anyway, like these on my p-bass, but obvious they are not going to work for everyone. ... show more

  • The best strings ever.
Size: Lt Medium, Long Scale (.045-.105) Style: 4 String Set Pattern Name: Strings
I had always avoided these due to the price tag. I bought a bass from GC.....I could not believe how good the strings sounded. I had no idea what they were. The next day I went back to GC and talked to the guy that sold me the bass. He said based on my description......they had to be Elixir. At first, I thought he just wanted to sell me expensive strings. When I got home I put them on my Warmoth bass......Woah man......then I didn't change them for a year.....they seemed to even get better with time. I use them exclusively now. ... show more
