  • Best screen for the money on the market. Excellent support.
Style: Evanesce Tab-Tension B Color: CineWhite Size: 110" / 16:9 / 8-inch Drop
The build quality on this screen is excellent, and is the second one we’ve installed this year. They’ve improved the installation kit quite a bit over previous years, now including a quality metric socket wrench and extra install hardware — both threaded rods and perforated angle brackets. They’ve also stopped recommending testing the screen rolling mechanism before installation, which caused more problems than it solved before (think about how you would ‘temporarily” hang a 120” screen to do an extension test). The installation instructions could stil use some clarification, although they’ve cleared up a lot of ambiguity that previous instructions had about measuring and cutting the flush-mount opening. Two different installation approaches are documents: “above ceiling” and “below ceiling”. We’ve tried both methods, and don’t really understand yet the difference between “above” and “below” ceiling. Clearly the entire screen mechanism is always above the ceiling in both approaches. Even the tech we called couldn’t explain how to select one approach or the other. One uses threaded rods, and the other uses perforated angle brackets. Other than that, I don’t understand the distinction. Once installed, the screen is very easy to use. The two screens we installed are in adjacent rooms, and the RF remotes were thoughtfully paired to the appropriate screen, avoiding run-time mixups with simultaneous speaking sessions. There are also separate remotes for IR and RF, another bonus, because you can have a speaker remote and one for backstage use. The ability to slave to a projector “lower” and “retract” screen signal is also a boon, as you don’t need to put the screen remote on stage if you don’t want to — the screen automatically lowers on projector power-up and retracts on power-down. This time we paid the extra money for Elite’s tab-tension stabilizing side wire version, as this venue has more indoor air motion than our previous locations. The difference in screen rigidity is quite amazing, as the tab tensioning wires completely eliminate the motion due to HVAC blowers we’ve had to deal with in the past. These screens are also used in rooms with unblocked outside windows, os projection is often in broad daylight. Image contrast and viewing angles are excellent, with no audience cold spots. Despite some quibbles over the installation guide, Elite’s tech support is highly available and very proficient with all projection technical issues. They provided us valuable installation tips tailored for our installation, in particular in projector positioning to eliminate keystoning. We could not be happier. ... show more

  • Fantastic at "returned stock" price.
UPDATE 18 Months later: After less than 2 years of use (the warranty period); the limit switches on the unit have failed and the unit won't roll back up. I'm attempting to get parts from Elite Screens, will follow up on how that goes. It's important to note that if you adjust this screen AT ALL after installation (screen drop, for instance) Elite Screens will tell you your warranty is now void, despite the fact that their paperwork only says that "improper" adjustment of the screen will void your warranty, without any explanation that by "improper" they mean "any." Hopefully I'll be able to get replacement parts, even if I have to buy them, and be able to fix the unit. ---------------------------------------------- I don't think I could have really stomached this unit at the full retail price, even with how good it is. That being said, I picked this up as an Amazon "returned stock" item for about half of full retail. It was received in perfect condition (outer box was damaged, inner box was just fine. The build quality of the casing is really good, and all the installation parts that come with it were top notch, though they could have used much better instructions. It takes a good deal of puzzling over what the heck they mean with some of the steps and the distinct lack of any decent pictures. In the end, I had to go watch a few Youtube installation videos to get an understanding how some of it was supposed to work out. I also decided to wall mount this unit (and plan to enclose it with a trimmed in soffit later); using angle iron and a ledger board firmly bolted to the wall. The screen itself hangs nice and flat, and is quiet enough considering that I don't have it yet enclosed in anything. The motor is definitely high quality, and the additional 12" drop on the top made it the perfect choice for our room that has 9' ceilings. Our projector is an older Optoma HD37, and when the blinds are shut and the room darkened, it looks great on this screen. We're seated about 10' away, and even in plain old HD resolution, the image is not noticeably pixelated and is reasonably bright. Definitely a good deal and a high quality unit. ... show more

  • Excellent Quality but Installation is a little tricky
Overall, a very solid screen. There are a few small wrinkles, but I don’t notice them when watching a movie. The screen is still new so I’m hoping the wrinkles may slowly dissipate on their own. The image quality is excellent. The remote controls are easy to use as well. We installed the screen in my basement with a drywall ceiling. We had the slot framed out before we did drywall, which helped with the installation process. The installation takes a lot of prep time as everyone’s application is unique and won’t typically match the online demo videos. Overall, I would have like the design to give you a little bit more tolerance for installation variation. ... show more
