The CineGrey 3D’s CLR/ALR technology allows the projector’s light to reflect back at the mirror's opposite end. This greatly reduces the amount of light scatter and focuses the light on the viewer’s sweet spot. In addition, the black microscopic layers improve black levels and color purity to increase the contrast ratio vs a matte white screen material. What are the benefits of using CineGrey 3D material in a dark room with a white ceiling and walls? Projecting on a matte white screen material in a dedicated Home Cinema typically requires a darkroom environment for a great theatrical experience. Matte White materials diffuse light in all directions since that is their nature. This means that light will scatter everywhere in the room. That is why a dedicated Home Cinema room should try to have as many black walls and light-absorbing materials to reduce the amount of scattered light. This scattered light eventually reflects back to the projection image and degrades the contrast ratio, color, and black levels, affecting the picture's fidelity. The media could not be loaded. Purchased this after an unsuccessful trial of a Silver Ticket silver-color screen, which had visible defects when brightly lit. Assembly wasn't awful...Elite Screens has done away with the fiddly grommets that need to be installed. They now use metal rods (akin to the style used by Silver Ticket), but still uses the mini springs that each must be individually installed. The switch away from the plastic grommets was a welcome surprise and the assembly was much faster. One thing to consider with this setup is that the rods can cause some screen "bunching" during assembly, so you'll want to ensure that the rods are inserted properly/smoothly. I have a 120" set up in my loft mandate, running an Epson Home Cinema 4000. There are a lot of windows in my house, and while I do have blinds and light-blocking curtains, my viewing space is not fully light-controlled, hence my interest in a gray screen. While the Silver Ticket screen I tried was a 1.5 gain, and this Cinegray 3D is 1.2 gain, this Cinegray screen seems to be as bright, if not brighter than the Silver Ticket. My Epson is a 2200 lumen projector, so with its lower power I was concerned that I might have issues lowering the gain, but thus far that hasn't been an issue. Thus far, I'm very impressed. After calibrating my projector for brightness and contrast, the image quality is excellent. Colors are rich, and the blacks are quite dark for a non-light-controlled space The screen does seem to reject peripheral light from above reasonably well, but not particularly well from the sides, but will need more testing. I sit approximately 10 feet from the screen (which is too close until I finish some remodeling) so there is some vignetting/hotspotting that should improve by moving back a few feet. So far, so good. No screen defects that I can detect yet. Will update review if any issues arise. ... show more

The ALR is hard to describe. It's definitely something you have to see in person because pictures don't do it justice. It has this really attractive sheen to it the way it reflects the light back at the viewer. It DEFINITELY fights back the ambient light while still maintaining contrast. Especially if light is hitting it above or on the sides, that's when the ALR REALLY WORKS! Keep in mind that any light coming straight at the screen or in the same direction as the projector will reflect that light back to the viewer and will wash the image out. Also keep in mind that it has a 90 degree viewing angle. So as long as you are in that viewing angle then you will have the full effect. As you move off of the angle then that's when the picture dims but it's still more than enough gain to enjoy movies. Hotspotting was something i didn't see and i'm using a 3400 lumen projector on eco mode but if that happens to some of you then try adjusting the brightness of the projector or move it further away but like i said i didn't encounter that effect. I would recommend buying the ALR Sample sheets first, they sell them here on AMAZON. Get the pack that has the CINEGREY 3D, CINEGREY 5D AND CINEGREY. Remember the longer the projector throw the better the image will be for THIS specific ALR screen. See pictures. Pic A is a white matte screen. Pic B is ALR. This is exactly what it does. If you're in the market for a screen, don't spend 3 months testing screen samples from a bunch of different manufacturers like I did...you'll drive yourself crazy. Just go buy a screen from elite screens. They are a bargain compared to the "professional" screens from Screen Innovations, DaLite and the bunch, and every darn bit as good. Why you would drop thousands on some of those screens when you could have an EliteScreens product is beyond me unless you just love blowing money. This screen is amazing, the build is second to none, the ALR properties are incredible. It's honestly pretty darn close to having a 120" led tv in a lit room. I tested Silver Ticket screen sample materials as well before deciding on ES. ES wins hands down when you see them side by side. That goes for all designs, Matte White, CineWhite, CineGrey, High Contrast, ALR, you name it. Setting it up is a pain, like all of them, but you only have to do it once. I would be equally happy with the CineWhite in a dedicated dark room, but we built our basement as an entertaining space with a lot of light/windows and wanted the ALR features of the CineGrey 3D for that reason. Worth the extra in my opinion. Cheers! P.S. Our light cannon is a Epson 3700 with 3000 lumens and it rocks. After setting this up I was initially impressed with the picture quality until on solid backgrounds. Soccer, football, looking at the sky, bright ocean scenery that should look incredible are utterly ruined by this cut of material. For reference I have the 3D version at 120in. There is a general dirty screen effect (for those who remember cheap pc monitors) across the whole screen. I use a Ben Q 3000i and the screen before this was a 125in white elite screen. It looks like manufacturing oils and smears across the screen and it doesn't matter how far or close you get to the screen. In busy scenes it blends better but any bright scenes, roads etc it's all i can see. From different angles you can see the dirty effect on different parts of the screen. It's not even a set pattern it's just different blotchy looks all over. I contacted support and sent videos as requested and their response days later was that it's within tolerance??? For over $600 I'm not sure how this is acceptable. After my response I was ghosted and haven't heard back. Stay away from their "premium" materials. ... show more
