  • Good Guitar with Less Than Perfect Quality Control
Color: Blue
This guitar arrived well packaged in a gig bag in a box in a larger box. The gig bag has a little padding and a large front pocket. There are also extras: spare string, cable, cromulent tuner and a rudimentary strap and picks. The guitar itself is actually very nice looking with a blue sparkle finish. The paint job is very good. And the guitar weighs a very reasonable 6.6 pounds. I am done with heavy guitars, so this is right in my wheelhouse. I am going to lead with the reason this guitar gets four stars and not five stars. The output jack plate screws were both stripped. The plate and output jack were falling out of the guitar as I tried to plug in for the first time. I had to stop and use toothpicks and Tite Bond to tighten the screws and the output jack down. Not something a beginner should have to do. Also, the strap button at the lower bout was loose. But now for the good parts. The guitar is a good player. The neck in extremely comfortable slim C. The neck is glassy smooth to play on. The tuners are basic, but they function well. The nut is 42mm across and apart from the Low E slot being just a smidge high is cut well. I suspect it is a plastic nut, but can find no confirmation. The neck is rosewood and the radius measures around 14 inches. There are sharktooth inlays. There is just a tiny bit of relief. Action at the 12 fret Low E is 6/1,000s and high E 7/1000's. A small amount of fret sprout, which cleaned up with a sanding sponge in a minute or two. There are no dead frets and no fret buzz anywhere on the neck Very good. And intonation was very good up the neck. The heel joint is very nice with ferrules and screws, rather than a plate. Well done. The back compartment is well routed and very clean. A thin tremolo block is paired with what i can only assume are the strongest possible springs. After playing the guitar, i thought the claw must be pinned to the body because the tremolo was too tight to be usable. I was surprised to see what is pictured. The claw is actually spaced away from the body. So, the assumption about the springs. I don't consider this a downside on a beginner guitar. Beginners need tuning stability and the more they use a tremolo, the less tuning stability they'll likely get. The electronics work as they should. The potentiometers are dime sized. The wiring is basic with good solder joints. The switch is a circuit board rather than a physical switch. The pickups sound good in all positions. Better on clean than when using overdrive or reverb. But they're actually fine for a student guitar. So, overall this is a good student guitar and package with just a couple of problems. And for just under 140 dollars it is a very good value for money. ... show more

  • Just what I wanted!
Color: Black
Now I can't give any actual reviews on the sound quality, because I'm not really experienced in playing. I got this as a way to try to learn. I was surprised by what it came with. You get the guitar, but it also inside the package the guitar comes inside of a guitar bag. You also receive a strap for the guitar bag, extra strains, the cables to plug it into an amp a tuner with digital display, the little bar that screws in, four guitar picks! You also get a towel to help wipe it down the machine. This is such an awesome kit and I would definitely recommend others get it if you're looking for a guitar to try out while learning. It looks as described and I believe it is gorgeous. It is a black with little specks of shimmer so it's sparkles. ... show more
