  • Excellent Beginner guitar at a good price
Excitedly unpacked this guitar and I wasn't disappointed. The finish was as close to flawless as you get. The body wood, was suggested to be basswood in the description, but then later Okoume is mentioned. I concluded looking at the back of the body as it looks very similar to mahogany it must be Okoume. The sculpted top appears to be a maple skin, it is beautiful and the wood patterning has already earned the guitar its name of "Tigger". This guitar was mainly all "pro's" with just a couple "cons" so here they are. Pros: The level of finish is excellent, I would suggest what you would expect from a guitar in the $400 region. The neck was very straight, the nut string depths at the first fret are close to my idea of perfect. This is unusual for an inexpensive guitar, as most are high and need work to lower them. The action height was close to low, the pickup height distance from the strings was also very good, even the intonation was close needing only minimal adjustment. The instrument definitely shows evidence that some time has been spent on setup. The pickups are certainly decent for beginners, although I will probably change them down the road together with the plastic nut for bone. The guitar came with everything to get playing, a small guitar tuner, strap and as well as the usual cheap guitar lead they also included a half decent upgraded one. Cons: Guitar came inside a decent soft case, inside a cardboard box then an Amazon box. The head of the guitar is quite pointed and due to probable rough handling during transit the guitar head had pushed its way through the soft case fabric and through the 1st cardboard box, only the Amazon box stayed in tact. Fortunately the black painted front of the headstock was undamaged and only a few marks on the lacquered head point, which are hardly noticeable. I mention this as a note of caution to the seller. Some folded foam padding put over the guitar head before sealing the soft case would prevent this and reduce damaged returns. I was very lucky mine was OK. As I already said, this guitar was well set up, however the one thing that had been missed was the sharp fret ends. I'm sure a sock test would rip the sock to shreds. In my case, a little time spent with a sandpaper sponge and some masking tape will have things beautifully smooth. It's a shame though as the seller obviously wanted to make the guitar playable out of the box but missed this easy fix. I'm sure a manufacturer could fix the sharp frets quicker than intonating the guitar. Conclusions: I paid $103 tax in, for this guitar, as there was a Amazon discount voucher, when I ordered. This is an incredible instrument, for the price of a good music stand!. I feel like I stole it! This guitar with a little bit of minimal work will be great for beginners, the look and finish keeping them practicing. Intermediate players have an instrument that is reasonably easily upgradeable and could be with them a very long time. I am very pleased with this purchase. ... show more

  • Impressive for the cost....with a catch
So I don't really write reviews much but I just had to here. This guitar really is beautiful, looks just like the product pics and is honestly an almost flawless finish. I had one little bubble in my finish come off right on the inside edge of the recessed hole for the selector switch. It's an easy fix in a place nobody else will ever notice. The relief carving on the back of the mahogany body are very comfortable against your torso and I like the feel of the recessed edge around the guitar top. The maple is moderately figured, stained and finished well, thin as expected. The knobs are solid and cool looking with great grip, the string through looks good, saddle and tuners seem mid quality. I haven't really dug in far but the electronics are all soldered appropriately and well functioning. The pickups probably aren't the best but frankly they sound great to me. Very full sounding cleans to face ripping distortion, plenty of tone options with the selector switch and tone control. Now the other half of the story....there was some basic little stuff that needed attention like loose tuner nuts and string trees, no big deal. The construction of the neck, headstock, and fingerboard are solid and done surprisingly high quality woods. Straight as an arrow. The frets though....there had to be something considering I paid $105 Black Friday price. Most of the fret ends were slightly proud of the fingerboard, maybe just from wood shrinkage, easy enough either way. Unfortunately though, at least 12 frets were not fully seated to some extent. Some with just end problems, some with a gaps across their width. Fret buzz from everywhere. Thankfully I'm capable enough and these issues were able to be corrected with a couple hours worth of work. If I wasn't able to do the work myself, the guitar would be essentially unplayable without some pretty costly work at a luthier. I think that even if you had to pay to get some work done, this thing is still a good buy at this price. If you're willing and able to likely do some work yourself, it's a fantastic buy. A killer looking, comfortable and capable dinky type guitar for under $150 and a little elbow grease, 100% happy I took the chance on what I expected might be total junk. ... show more

  • Very nice and good price
I gave 5 stars considering the low price. Quite a bargain if you looking for a Tele style guitar. These days, all manufactured guitars are cut on CNC machines for stunning accuracy. I like the graphic on this guitar - adds a bit of color instead of the traditional black or solid colors. Very nicely done and they used clear plexi as a pick guard which I love - why block any portion of the artwork? Plays very well. The pickups are quite decent with cloth wraps around the wires. I was surprised as the tones are very good - cutting highs on the bridge and warm sweet on the neck. They did use shielding paint in the cavities, but no shielded wiring. Still, the single pickup buzz is kept to a minimum. The sealed tuners are standard and do a nice job. I'm not a fan of barrel style saddles, but the intonation was really close - so I'll keep those on. The string thru top is interesting or you can go through the body if you want to mod/drill as the bridge has holes for that. The string thru the top adds a bit more twang. The neck plays very well and the action can get semi-fast. Teles are not known as shredders. The body is solid and has a nice weight. The gig bag is the standard cheap thin. The accessories are OK - nice touch if you new to the guitar. For this price, you can't get a better Tele if you're a beginner or to mod. ... show more
