  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Really nice woodwork, but needs to be put together and setup.
Size: 4
This is going to be only a start of a review of where the bass is and how it turns out. OK, I got my bass yesterday, came to me my UPS, really nice guys and very careful with it. Box was not damaged at all and it was double boxed for shipping ( A nice touch ). I opened the box to see a gig bag with a bass guitar inside. Came with a tuner, strap, some picks and 2 cables / with a Allen wrench for the neck set up. Now I have to say the work working on the guitar is top notch, very clean job. Nice finish 100% perfect. I bought the 4 string model, and all I have to say is it looks really nice, but and here's the but, I came almost not put together, pickups are not screwed down all the way 1/4 inch high, very sharp fret ends, could really cut your fingers, and there is NO set up on this bass. To be honest it looks like they ran out of time to finish the bass for the price they wanted to get for it. I have not plugged it in yet, until I do all the work to finish their assembly, sand the frets, and tighten everything down, check under the hood and make sure the wires are done right. The bridge is so far up on the big E string that very hard to try and play or keep in tune as it sits. It's a real shame because they really have a gem sitting here and I knew going into this guitar that it needed work. So I will move on with this review after I get some work done to this bass and will report back on how it sound and preforms on a pro level use. It's not really a cheap guitar at all, it's just not finished by the builders. So it should be sold as a prefinished custom kit, they would sell better and people would know what they are getting into. So as it sits it's not playable from the factory, and needs work. A shame they seemed like they have anyone to set up or put together this fine bass. You know your way around a setting up a guitar or bass then this is for you, if your just starting out learning bass I would pass and find something that is 100% finished from the builder or it you don't mind paying someone at a guitar shop to set it up and file the sharp frets, then you will have a killer bass. I will come back after I get this set up and report on how it plays and sounds, so stay tuned. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Probably lots of BASS 4 the Buck... but had issues with Active Pickups out of the box...
Size: 4
I ordered this bass after randomly seeing it for sale. I've been a guitarist for 40 years, and have sometimes "messed" around with bass. This bass seems to be very well made (this style bass can be found on other websites for purchase, not always under the "Bullfighter" brand name, and not always with active pickups.) -a mahogany body (which is a vast array of sub species tree falling under the general name of "mahogany"), a maple neck and rosewood fretboard, with dual humbucker active pickups for a bit over $200 is a good deal. My bass arrived fast... packaged safely in a box. Upon initial inspection I did not notice any defects on the body... a highly attractive instrument. After opening the battery compartment on the backside, I immediately noted that a 9 Volt battery could not fit properly... the compartment had not been routed large enough to hold a battery and close... it was off by over 1/8th close to 1/4" short... I removed the plastic compartment from the cavity... put a brand new Duracell 9 volt in... (it fit snug and tight even without the plastic holder... battery sitting square on the electrode post... inserted the correct + and - position...) and plugged the bass into my amp... dead silence... nothing... I got "static" contact noise from the plug when rubbing against the input jack... and my other bass played great thru the amp... so, I tried another brand new battery... dead silence... which leads me to conclude that the Bass was not quality controlled at the factory, even though the CQ sticker is on the backside of the bass neck. I will have to take the bass to my Luthier to fix whatever the electrical issue is (The bass seemed to be "set up" fairly nicely as far as the neck goes... but I always take a new instrument in to get a true pro to "set" it up)... I will probably have to shell out $100 + for him to "tweak" the neck/string height (usually just $50 for a complete set up, minus any fret work... I should mention I noted no "Fret Sprout" on the bass) and fix the electrical contact issue... may need a whole new wiring box if this one is defective... all this doesn't mean I won't buy another "Bullfighter" bass, but I do hope that the CQ improves on this issue... ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Awesome, despite...
Size: 5
I was immediately impressed when I unboxed the bass! However, when I tried to play it, nothing. No sound. I opened up the control panel & jiggled the wires, rotated all the knobs & it worked. I think there is a short circuit on the mid knob. I lowered the action after that. Great bass for the money! Would recommend. ... show more
