I am still reeling from this book. Honestly, it has officially landed a permanent spot on my "All-Time Favorites" list. 📚✨ Eldritch isn't just a sequel; it’s an emotional wrecking ball. The tension between his Moon Witch and Zevander is magnetic; soulmate energy. ✍️❤️Even when the threat of turning into a "grotesque spider" is on the table, the love is unwavering. “Be strange kissing a spider.” 😂 If you thought Book 1 was intense, Eldritch takes the trauma, the stakes, and the steam, and sets them all on fire. 🔥🔥🔥 It’s a slow-burn that finally ignites, but be warned: the cliffhanger will leave you breathless. ⏳ The Backstory We Needed This book takes us back to the past, weaving in the gut-wrenching story of Zevander and the absolute torment he suffered at the hands of Loyce. Seeing what he went through made my heart ache. I was literally suffering right along with him. We also dive deep into Maevyth's history from when she was younger, and let me tell you, the trauma is real. 💔 "Eyes of silver to ash, a curse only broken by death." (The fate of it all! 💀) I have to say, while reading the prison scenes, I couldn't resist the comparison: the environment felt similar to the modern workplace. Watching him realize that working hard and minding his business only meant fewer punishments while the guards pitted prisoners against each other? Zevander realizes that working hard and minding your business just gets you "fewer punishments" while the "masters" (guards/bosses) watch everyone struggle. 😒 It’s a dark comparison, but honestly, sometimes the office does feel like a ‘fight to the death thinned by population.’ 😂 🏢 🔥 Slow Burn & Spicy Payoff If you’re here for the romance, be patient; this is a slow burn, but after all the tension, they are finally together in this book, and yes, there are spicy scenes that definitely turn up the heat.🌶️But more than the spice, it’s the devotion that got me.❤️🔥💜The book finally gives us some answers we’ve been craving while delivering the kind of spicy, fated-mates tension that ruins you for other books.🌶️So many things are revealed in this second installment. We finally get answers to some questions, though I’m still desperate to know what happened with Zevander’s sister and other characters from book one. These quotes are burned into my brain: "Clearly, you have no idea how irresistible you are if you imagine I can lie next to you even one night without the longing to touch you." 🫠 "It isn’t staying to protect you that’s going to kill me. It’s staying away from you." 😭 "Light illuminates the horrors that the darkness shields from us."🖤 "A well- read woman is a beautifully fearsome creature." 📚😉 The book ends on a massive cliffhanger that has me so anxious for Book 3! 😫 I am eager to see Maevyth finally take charge and do something for her man. I cannot wait to see how she handles or confronts Loyce. 👊 I’m hoping the finale is ready for us this year in 2026, but I don’t want the author to rush it. Alright to be fair the author did inform us that this book would be one of insight into Zevanders past. However..... it was rough going through it. Its not that it was bad.. I mean good god I gave it 4 stars lol but it just took me a long time to want to continue reading. It was one where it wasn't filled with the same energy as book one but it was telling and informative nonetheless. Going into this book off the cliffhanger from book one i went in thinking energy would be the same. But instead it started out similar and then changed. It was at that point I felt more like I was just learning then I was adventuring and my eyes kinda glazed over. But... At the end of the day I knew I loved her writing style. I know I would get more of Zevander, the horrors from book 1, Maevyth, Kaz.. All of them. I was about 85% of the way done with the book when I put it on the shelf for a long time. But I had some time off work and decided to finish some of the books I had started but never finished. Hence this review. I wont go lower than 4 even though it was a struggle. I wanted the action, the adventure, and this was memories to help you understand more. But let me tell you that last 15% was exactly what I was looking for. It had everything, spice, horror, tears (you'll know when you get there), adventure. Me cheering in my head that Maevyth was strong than she realized. So many omg moments. Finally I saw the glimpse of what made me fall in love with this series in the first place. Till the end... Cause WTF is that!!!!!!!?????!!!!! Now I gotta wait (not much longer) for book 3 to come out so I can see what happens next. The way I wanted to throw the damn kindle against the wall for that ending. Ugh my emotions! Anywhoo thats my opinion on this book lol hope you enjoyed

***SPOILER FREE REVIEW*** I know that many haven't enjoyed this book but I found it to be excellent! As others have said, yes, there's many, many flashbacks into Zevander's past and little forward progress to present time plot in the first half or so. Despite that, I was thoroughly entertained and sucked into the world from start to finish. Sure, there were a few slower spots, but they didn't last long. Many claim that this is a filler book that fails to add to the plot, but I disagree. I feel like so many elements were uncovered that are pertinent to the storyline. Even all of the torture that Zevender endured. I didn't find it repetitive nor unnecessary. I think that his past needed to be visited in order to really understand him, as well as his kinship with other characters. All in all, this was one of my top reads of 2026 and I encourage everyone to give it a chance. I'll be very impatiently waiting (especially after that cliff hanger) for the final installment to be released to finish the journey through the Eating Woods!

This book was a mixture of slowly advancing the storyline and reliving an unfortunate amount of torture and pain of the past. I devoured the first book in this series and had a hard time finishing this one.

I gave anathema 5 stars, I’m giving this one 4.5. But it ripped me to shreds. While anathema is super fast paced, has expansive lore and world building and a lot of dark tension and hints to painful traumatic pasts for each character, Eldritch takes those traumatic pasts and burrows each and every one into your soul. This book is detailed, gruesome, heartbreaking, devastating and so so dark. It brings you into the shadows of each person and nestles you deep into what makes them who they are. The story took on a bit of a psychological thriller vibe when revisiting a lot of zevanders story and answered a lot of lingering questions while popping up more. I’m rating it a bit lower because while I still LOVE the plot, the depth of the characters and the details in the lore I felt like this one I was clinging on to the backstory chapters for answers and less so caring about what was happening in the present time until towards the end. I did however personally love the addition of khazimirs pov since they are separated it gave good insight to the side characters and also kept the plot moving in both worlds Raivox continues to be my favorite. Check your trigger warnings and if you don’t like spiders pls opt out because I still feel like things are crawling on me. Keri lake thinks so creepily and I’m here for it.

okay so im actually at 90% but I refuse to read the rest until the third book is closer to release because people are starting to make stupid choices and I really can't do another cliffhanger. I liked getting more of zevander's backstory, however, it did make it really hard for me to read because of all the swapping timelines and places. I constantly forgot who was who or what was happening until like 60% of the way into the book. the plot really doesn't move forward much until around here, but it didn't really bother me? it was very character driven, for two characters I really liked [except for when it swapped to the other guys pov and i just was like... okayyyyy] it was really like the moments with the two MCs were little intermissions between history. i do wish I had gotten a little more meat of the actual story, but I think having this backstory added a lot to the characters and their relationship. in short, im not mad at it. I liked it, I just wanted more of them. I just hope things move a little faster and a little farther in book three.

It took me almost a year to write this review because I honestly did not have the words to express all the feelings I had while reading this book. I finally decided to say, scr*w it, and just say I LOVED this book. We finally learned Zevander's background, and let me tell you, it was an emotional rollercoaster that completely destroyed me! I think Keri Lake did an amazing job exploring and telling Zevander’s story. My love for this man only intensified, and don't get me started with Maevyth. She is my female fictional character crush. We also learned more about her. It was so hard to put this book down and concentrate on my clinical rotation (surgery). i wanted to learn what was going to happen next. There's back and forth between present and past, and while I'm usually not a big fan of it, I think Keri did an incredible job because at the end of each chapter you were still on the edge, so you needed to read the preent/past chapter in order to find out more about that previous chapter. Anywho, I loved this book as much as Anathema, and I truly cannot wait for the next book in the series.

A lot of Keri’s books are slow and turn into jaw dropping moments. There were times it was hard to keep up with past and present flashbacks. Especially if you’ve stopping in the middle of a chapter. I recommend the series for sure. I can’t wait for number three. Also, someone needs to kill “the blonde”! There were sad moments so brace yourself.
