  • Very entertaining to read .
I enjoyed the book so much that I finished reading it on the same day. I loved the pictures and the way the author explained how to care for tropical trees and fruits. It also provides recipes to try out with each fruit mentioned in the book. The author even teaches you how to grow and care for Acerola, a fruit that I enjoyed during my childhood. There are many great ideas and steps on how to grow trees indoors, but unfortunately, I don't believe that I will be able to grow any in my low-light apartment. You need a warm climate, a lot of space, and experience growing these plants. I don't believe this book is beginner-friendly is a good book to read and dream of having fresh fruits in your home but not everyone is blessed with space and experience. ... show more

  • Great resource
This is a very well-written book with a lot of useful information on so many different fruiting plants. I really like how it is broken down into specific categories of plants, and discusses the care and maintenance of each. I do wish it had some recommendations for brands of fertilizer to use, but that's a minor point. Overall, this is a great resource and I even learned about some plants I wouldn't have considered otherwise. ... show more

  • Fun and well written
Edible Houseplants is a tutorial and gardening guide for raising tropical plants like coffee, vanilla, and citrus as houseplants written and curated by Laurelynn and Byron Martin. Originally published in 2010, this reformat and re-released edition was released 12th Sept 2023 by Hachette on their Storey imprint. It's 160 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats. This is a well written, accessible, and fun guide to growing tropical plants in the home/garden. The author does a great job explaining the challenges and tricks involved in an enthusiastic and "can-do" manner. The book is arranged in thematic chapers: Citrus fruits, other tropical fruits (acerola, avocado, banana and many more), coffee tea & chocolate, sugar & spices, and general tropical plant care & propogation (including one of the better all purpose troubleshooting and pest control chapters I've seen). The author/publisher have also included a good abbreviated glossary and resources and links lists. Five stars. I think most readers will understand that nobody is going to be able to grow enough of anything to make a significant addition to their food and/or resources balance, but as a fun and education experiment and for bragging rights, it's a very very cool book. This would be a great choice for home use, gardening groups, and public and school library collections. ... show more

  • Only useful if you have 6-8hrs of sunlight indoors
Most of the plants in this book are full sun plants and if you don’t have a way to get 6-8 hours of sunlight on them year round, this book is not for you. In fact there is almost no information in this book about light conditions at all. Not a true “house plant “ book but rather a book for those in warm climates, greenhouses and/or massive windows. ... show more
