    • Cool concept, just doesn't work unfortunately
The blade won't take the stress and chowders up on the first cut. The angle of attack is too high and it digs into and destroys the corner where you start the cut. The brass blade lock screw is too long and mars your work. Other than that, well, there is no other, this just doesn't work. Out of the box the blade won't cut worth a darn. That's not surprising given the size of burr it had on the edge and the fact part of the blade bottom still had mill scale on it. It's not uncommon for woodworking tools to arrive needing tuning, so I sharpened the blade like I do my Japanese chisels and after an hour or so had a keen edge on it, at least as keen as it would take. Unfortunately the blade is not hard enough to stand up to the duty and the cutting edge went all waffly after the first cut. Just the first .020" or so, as a soft blade will do, but useless for cutting. The blade just isn't made out of blade steel. Also, it has a strong tendency to dive into the work at the start of the edge. I couldn't start an edge without it biting off the corner. In the middle of the cut, the action is rough with the chip coming up in segments rather than a smooth curl. This is hard to control and leaves a rough edge. I blame the thickness of the blade which levers the chip far away from the cut within a few millimeters of rising up the bevel. That makes sense for me of why other edge-banding trimmers use a thin blade, somewhere between the thickness of a razor blade and a utility blade. Icing on the cake is the brass screw that fastens the blade sticks through and mars the face you're sliding the tool over. So this one is money lost and goes into the scrap pile. Maybe I'll make something good out of it later but for the moment it is absolutely useless for the intended purpose. Obviously the folks who made this never tried actually using it. ... show more

larger trimmers can be to aggressive this one is just right for those light touches nice clean sharp edge easy to remove and stone finish the blade when needed
