This filter looks just like the one that should fit the car but it is ever so slightly bigger and was very hard to get the filter box to go back together. I realize the rubber needs to compress so it makes an air tight seal but this was way too tight and at first I thought it was just not going to work but after working with it for a long time, I was able to get it to compress enough to get the box back together. Been using the filter for a week and there are no issues. Easy diy job that takes less than 10 minutes. The air filter on a CX 9 is located on the right side of the car when you’re facing it. You can tell it’s the air filter because there is a hose shape on one side. All you need to do to open it is loosen the two clamps on the left and lift up the cover. Replace the old air filter with the new one and slide the two tabs on the right in the slots. I had to push down in the lid a little to get the tabs in. Put the clamps back in the lid is flush.
