  • Cheap, soft screws
Color: Black
I've had this fan for 4 years. Works well. However, in the second year, it started rattling, due to a loose screw on the mounting frame that screws the blade to the body. I've tightened it (not overnight!) a few times since then. Last year, the screw head broke off mid shaft. I looked at it, and it is a VERY soft screw. There are ways to remove this very small screw shaft (possibly), and replace the screw, but it would require tool attachments that I don't have. And, I'm not sure the threads would really remain intact. So, I am listening to it rattle all winter. I am faced with throwing this whole thing in the trash (can't recycle) and buying a new, quiet one, or putting up with the noise until the remaining screw breaks. It is hard for me to put this large and expensive piece of metal in the trash because of a 1-cent screw. ... show more

  • Works well, base must be in contact with hot surface.
Color: Black
At first, I put it in a position where I believe the heat would be the highest, but the base wasn’t fully in contact with a metal surface. Then I moved it so it sat on a flat Hot surface on top of my stove and then it really took off and worked well

  • Placement is EVERYTHING. I love mine.
Color: Nickel
(I'll put misc. comments at end) Face the fan AWAY from the room. The back edge of the fan needs to be almost at the edge of the stove so it can draw cool room air in the back to work. The base of the fan must be over one of the hotter parts of the stove. I had to shift mine a few times to find the best spot. Mine is slightly right of the front center of the stove so it blows past the rear-centered vent pipe at an angle - so it directs the heat toward the cold end of the room. Like other reviewers, I had to give mine a spin the first 3-4 heat cycles, but then it seemed to loosen up and hasn't failed since. I've run this fan for many, many hours for the month I've had it. I'm in Northern Minnesota with no electric and a woodstove-style propane heater. It is almost silent. I can feel the difference in my usually colder areas. It continues to run for a several minutes after my burner cycle shuts off. I don't have a CAT, but as it slows down & stove is still hot, it could be a danagerous attraction. ... show more

  • WOOD BURNING INSERT ECOFAN BELAIR
Color: Black
I've used a wood burning Ecofan designed for free standing stoves for several years with limited success because I have a insert. The insert does not get as hot as a free standing stove. After checking the temperature on top of my stove for about a week, I found a spot that never gets above 392 F/200C which is the max temperature for the Belair. The Belair works great vs. the old fan that just never got hot enough to max its spin. I'm using the old fan on my shops free standing stove. Now my insert has a blower fan, so I primarily use the Belair as a visual aide to know if the temperature warm enough from across the room. The blades are black unlike the old fan so I put a dot of white paint on the ends of the blades. ... show more

  • Works Well--When It Works
Color: Gold
I purchased this for a gas woodstove that is the main heat source for our house. The stove is controlled by a wall thermostat. When the stove first comes on, the fan works continuously after the surface gets hot enough. It works great circulating the heat in the home. The problem is when the stove cycles off, then on again, at the set temperature. The fan won't start again no matter how long the stove stays on again. It has to be lifted off the stove's top briefly, then put back in place. It will start rotating again only after that is done. If we are not at home to set it in motion again, we don't get the air circulation the fan is supposed to deliver. It is a disappointing overall performance. ... show more

  • Works great but I'm not sure if it pushes a lot of air
Color: Gold
I'm quite happy with this fan. I'm not sure really how much air it's displacing but it seems to add to the distribution of heat above my gas stove. I put it on top of my natural gas, non-vented stove and it works fine. My stove has a thermostat which turns it on or shuts it off based on the temperature e in the room. So the fan is often ramping up, going full blast, ramping down or is off depending on what state the stove is in (or has been). It's actually fun to watch it "crank up" and slow down as the stove heats up and cools down (it's almost like a heat indicator that let's you know if the stove is still hot). How much it's actually improving the distribution of hot air into my main house is still a question though - but I'm pleased with its performance and it's appearance. ... show more

  • Very Pleased.
Color: Black
The Ecofan arrived on time, well packaged and brand new. We use the fan on a diesel heater (Dickinson Newport), which is on our boat. A friend loaned us one of the 100cf/m fans so we were aware of just how useful these fans are at circulating the warm air around the boat. The 806 is rated at 140cf/m and also runs at a lower temperature. Our stove top's maximum temperature is around 350 degrees fahrenheit, which is a comfortable margin less than the 392 degrees fahrenheit max of this fan. The fan is a noticeable improvement over the 100 cf/m fan, which also required a higher operating temperature than our stove provided. It "feels" like twice the amount of air being moved around. The fan spins rapidly and is whisper quiet. I can get a spare motor for $14.99 from Home Hardware, which is the only moving part of the device. *BEWARE* I've seen these replacement motors for over $40 on Amazon, so buy wisely if a problem develops. I can't comment on longevity, having only owned the Ecofan for a short time, however, it is very robust, cast ?aluminium? and the only moving part costs $14.99 to replace. I will recommend it to friends. ... show more

  • Working great on top of my small propane stove!
Color: Gold
I simply love these little things. I have a small propane stove in my family room that sits close to the stairwell leading up to the kitchen. Before buying two of these fans the heat went straight up to the kitchen and left my downstairs family room cold. I bought one and found that it wasn’t quite enough to circulate the air so I bought a second one and together they circulate the warmth throughout my 900 square-foot family room. I love that they simply run off of the heat generating from the stove and there is absolutely no sound when the fans are running. They even fit in nicely with my farmhouse rustic industrial motif. Highly recommend! ... show more
