Our elderly family member does not do well with technology, so we were more than a little apprehensive moving to a cell phone. This flip phone has more than done the job! To answer a call, they just flip the phone open and to hang up they just close the phone...no touching, swiping, or button pressing needed. We have immediate family members programmed into the speed dial function, so they just press and hold one digit to call the person they want to reach. (We keep a list by the phone charging station in case they forget.) We also programmed in the names and numbers of friends who are likely to call. If the phone rings and a known name doesn't show on the phone, they don't answer the call and we check for voicemail messages later. This keeps them from being bothered by scam and robo calls. Having to use the number pad to program in names is a bit cumbersome, but it is worth it to give our senior family member the independence to make and receive calls on their own. It also give us peace of mind to know that they can easily call us if there is an emergency or question. If you senior wants a simple cell phone, this may be the one. Although the phone was unlocked, which made the product attractive to me, it kept losing connection with network. I had to constantly turn off the phone and turn it back on again in order to acquire network usage at first I thought it was just this particular one so I ordered the same one and it seems to be a product deficiency do not purchase this specially if you wanted for an elderly family member. ... show more

    • It's so Basic that It's Not Intuitive

The Positives: I want a phone that can call and text. That's it. No social media. No internet. This phone definitely fits the bill; it's BEYOND basic. It can call and text--that's about it. In true dumphone fashion, this phone only takes pic that kids these days would describe as "potato-quality." That's fine by me, I don't take pictures on my phone anyway. I'm a 90s baby so the flip phone form factor is 11/10. It feels very 2000s. I also love that it comes in blue. That's about the end of the positives. The radio quality is insanely good. I'm sure this would be a great music player, although I'm equally sure the storage space is garbage and putting music on the phone would be a pain in the neck. Again, I didn't buy the phone for the music so that's fine too. One of the things I hated the most about my previous dumphones was that they all had apps installed on them that couldn't be uninstalled. Not this phone. It truly is bare bones. The Negatives: The capabilities of the phone are so basic that there's not a whole lot of room to get confused, but operating this phone is NOT intuitive. I'm a 28-year-old dumbphone veteran and this phone actually stumped me. I couldn't figure out how to adjust the display settings for the clock, nor could I figure out how to change the ring tone. Reading the manual has been no help. I actually had to consult YouTube videos to help me figure out this dang phone. The buttons make noise whenever I press them, and I STILL can't figure out how to change that either. Here's an example of the unintuitive navigation. There's a button that corresponds to "menu" but when you press it, it doesn't take you to a menu. Instead, it takes you to a screen that says "Message" with an envelope icon; you can either press "OK" or press "BACK." If you press "OK," it'll take you to your messages. If you press "BACK" it will take you to the home screen. There's nothing to indicate that you need to press the "up arrow" to scroll through your menu options! Was excited to purchase this phone for my elderly mother (80s). Activated with Verizon, however would not call out/in. Verizon staff in store assisted with trouble shooting, replacing with new SIM Card (2x), updated network settings and it would not work.

For a basic phone, it started out ok, but 3 months after I bought it, the keypad started going bad. It would skip past digits, e.g., I needed to text an "o". I'd push the 6, 3 times, but it would skip over the o and jump straight to 6, so I'd have to retext until I got the "o". And if I wasn't looking at the screen and didn't discover the error until I was finished typing, I'd have to go back. Once was ok, but this would happen 5 or 6 times in a short text. That, or I'd push and nothing would happen at all. VERY Frustrating. I'm at 6 montyhs with that phone now and I give up! Time for a new phone. ... show more
