  • Great collection, but NOT for beginners!
There are a few “easy” piano pieces in this book, but mostly, it is intermediate to advanced. For example, the first movement of Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” can easily be played by a beginner, but the rest of the piece cannot be considered “beginner level”. The book features some other easy pieces, but you have to sort through them to find something on an easy level. It would have been good to have sections in the book, sorting out the levels for you. On the other hand, you can just ask your piano teacher to suggest a few pieces from the book that would be on your level. Overall, though, the book has a great selection of very popular classical pieces that every pianist should know. You will just have to work your way through them, building on each level. If you are looking for a good standard collection, this book is great! It is difficult to get it to stay open on a music stand, but you can fix that problem by just getting a music book clip. I got some nice metal ones here on Amazon. ... show more

  • Great for the moderately-experienced pianist.
Short Version: Less "Easy" and More "Intermediate", but great collection! Long Version: Two years ago, my mom bought me a keyboard for Christmas and had it shipped to my house. As a child I had several years of piano lessons, but that was back in the '90s. After going through most of the sheet music I had hoarded in my house in the hopes I would eventually play piano again, I decided it was time to buy a book of classics. As a whole, I think this is a wonderful compilation of many familiar and not-so-familiar pieces. I have found pieces that were fairly easy for me to sightread through the first time, but there are also pieces that I would classify as advanced. When I look through the book, there are several pieces that I find too intimidating to even try (yet!). I highly recommend this compilation as a great way to challenge an intermediate pianist to improve their abilities. I could see how a beginner may become frustrated at the complexity of some of the pieces in the book. Also, the pieces are not listed in the book in an increasingly-difficult order (which I personally would have liked to see), so you have to flip through to find something you're ready to tackle. I'm looking forward to continuing to develop my ability and someday conquering this entire thing! ... show more

  • A fantastic book of the easier of the great classics
I would give this book 5 stars, because I LOVE it, but I am aware that the title "Easy" may be misleading to the sorts of beginners that buy other books named "Easy". To really enjoy this book, you need a certain level of knowledge in musical theory, e.g. understanding the various different symbols for the trills and also a solid rhythm to cope with timing when, e.g. triplets are used in one hand against 2 quavers in the other. Also, it makes a difference if you are familiar with some of these pieces - they are very famous and well-known to anyone who listens to classical music, but perhaps not to someone who only listens to more modern music. I played the piano for 10 years, to performance standard, but then gave it up for 12 years and I'm only just playing again now, very rustily! This book is perfect for me, to give me some easy music to relearn this versatile instrument. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves classical music but is at a standard where they are looking for the easier pieces in this genre. ... show more

  • Amazing selection, just not easy
I knew when buying this that most of the songs wouldn't be easy, but I liked the composers and the music selection. I wouldn't recommend this for a beginner, as the songs have no finger markings and require a lot of experience in note-reading (very few are what I would call "easy" and even those will probably still take me a while to be able to play). But I will definitely keep working on this book until I can play these songs, since they're all beautiful. ... show more

I'll chime in just to agree that this is no "Easy" piano classics book, granted I'm returning only recently to playing but having taken close to 8 years of lessons I would expect to be at least capable of an "Easy" paced book, but must admit most of this is beyond me. I could take a stab at maybe 1/4 of this book. Not for beginners or the faint of heart! ... show more

  • Not Easy
This book is not easy and would be difficult for most intermediate players. The compositions are difficult already and they are printed very small.

  • Love this book!
I am a self taught pianist and I use the term loosely. I have gone through most of the beginner piano books level one, two and three. I find this book a challenge, and far from easy, but it is the music I want to learn to play. Fur Elise is five pages long and therefore I feel it is the full length piece rather than some shortened childish version. I am 63 years old and have been playing with the piano since I was about 12. I may never learn to play well, but this book is very enjoyable to just have in my collection ... show more

  • Easy Piano Classics is good for ex-piano players
We recently purchased an 88-key digital piano and I am ecstatic to have a "piano" in the house again. I took 7 years of piano, along with violin, as a child, then stopped it in favor of only violin. With our new purchase, I was looking for a book which had pieces I'd learned then, and new ones, in the pure forms(i.e., not dumbed down versions of classics). This fits the bill admirably, and I've been happily practicing again, re-learning old favorites like Fur Elise, and learning new ones. If you have a moderate ease of playing, and can figure out and write in your own fingerings, this book is for you. ... show more
