    • Quite a bit of room but weatherproof does not mean water tight.

I believe it will shed the water very well but don't expect things to stay dry if it is in standing water. When assembled you can see daylight through some places on the seams. That is why I say not waterproof. I believe it should be water tight for the most part. If I have issues with water I will just get some of that spray on rubber and go over the seams. I don't think you can expect anything that requires assembly to be water tight so I am fine with the way it came together. I would buy it again but don't think that will ever be necessary. This was pretty quick to assemble but you really want 2 people, as stated, to assemble. You just need somebody to hold it maybe 2 or 3 times for a total of 2 minutes. I used a battery powered drill to put in the screws so it went pretty fast. I feel like the exterior dimensions are slightly bigger than I expected as it stuck out a little from where I planned it. I had measured my spot so expected it to be flat. You also need to need a bit for the top to open. I think the total extra width I needed was less than 2 inches. ... show more

    • I've bought three!! They're the best - the real thing.

We bought our first one a year ago, after reading reviews and comparing carefully. There are a lot of similar products that look like this one, but they don't all have the same structure! This one is reinforced with a metal frame. It is super sturdy. You can use it as a large bench, with multiple people sitting on it. It has a hydraulic thingy so when you open it, it sort of pops itself open and then stays up for you, until you close it. After the first season with it, it still looked brand new! It's out in the open elements and we're in the Northeast US, so we have sweltering heat and feet of snow. Everything inside stayed dry, and it hasn't faded or had any other issues. We've bought more now, and the only things I'd caution folks about are: 1. It needs to be on flat ground. When I had it in a wooded area and it was uneven, it made it flex a little so it didn't close right. It wasn't hard to level it out (I literally just crammed some rocks under one corner) but make sure you have it flat and even so it stays lined up. 2. If a bear knocks it over, water might get in. True story - we came back to find it turned on its side. It hadn't opened, and nothing came out, but a little water did get in when it rained. (I really mean a little.) 3. If you lock it, consider replacing the lock it comes with. We got one that's larger, easier to see to open it, and is harder to cut. But I'm not really complaining about the bonus lock included with the box. Oh - and if you buy the smaller one, note that they're not exactly the same. The "wood" pattern and size of slats are different. They look fine together, but they're not a perfect match, if that matters to you. So, no regrets here! We have THREE of the big ones and they store so much! We can even fit large storage bins/totes in them to keep things organized. We have the smaller one tucked up against the house for hot tub chemicals. We love them! ... show more

    • It’s a really nice looking storage unit - looks premium quality!

I was pleasantly surprised at how easily this storage unit went together and looks really nice and up scale! I was holding my breathe at how these storage units (I ordered 2 different sizes) were going to assemble and the quality of appearance & function once assembled, but was delighted at the finished product! The assembly directions were pretty clear, although they could have been better with pics of wrong vs right pics of each step. But overall my non-mechanically adept husband and I were able to put these together with only a couple minor re-does. They only thing I might stress to purchasers is that the place you are going to put these storage units needs to be level ground or the units will not close evenly. The hydraulics in the lid is wonderful & works perfectly but you must always open & close the lid from the center of the lid or I can see potential future alignment problems arising from lifting & closing from the ends. It is a nice sized outdoor chest. I read in another review prior to purchasing that there is a gap under the top and frogs and snakes could get in. When I assembled mine, I put a 1/2 inch weather stripping all around the top under the lid and no frogs or snakes can get into my box. This is something the manufacturer should do which is the only reason I took off one star. Overall, I am pleased with the purchase and would recommend. After posting my initial review, East Oak contacted me directly and inquired what issues I had. They were very inquisitive to the smallest detail and several clarification emails, which leads me to believe they are seriously looking into addressing this concern. My initial review I had only given them 4 stars, but based on the structural strength and integrity of the deck box, and the unexpected customer service response, I am changing my rating to 5 stars. ... show more

This was a great purchase and addition to our backyard space. Now we have a place dedicated for our outdoor furniture cushions where we don't have to worry about weathering and getting ruined. We run sprinklers every day in our backyard, often times getting the storage container wet but it stays perfectly dry on the inside.
