Features

  • Roasted Maple Neck and Roasted Mahogany Body:Roasted maple neck provides excellent stability and gorgeous caramel finish. The mahogany wood used for the body was also roasted for stronger mids and slightly lighter weight.
  • Bone Nut:Bone is a harder natural material and it has been favored by many luthiers for higher-end instruments due to its sustain and natural lubricating property.
  • Hand Polished Stainless Steel Frets:Stainless steel frets provide unrivaled durability and smooth playing surface for nice and easy big bends. Each fret ends are also hand-dressed for playing comfortability.
  • U to C Compound Neck Profile and Compound Radius: SSS has a unique U to C compound neck profile with a thicker shoulder on the lower frets, slowly tapers down to a slimmer C to higher frets. • If you're a new player or an experienced guitarist looking for insane value, buy this instrument.
Color: red
In 2020, there was a spate of reviews for this Eart instrument. Offering stainless steel frets and a roasted neck, it offered impossible to find features at $200 or so price point. Like a lot of people, I tapped this instrument into my cart and left it there because, really, did I need another guitar? I looked at the YouTube reviews again and after a lot of suffering through the cork-sniffing, I came to the conclusion that I was still interested but, again, did I really need a Chinese guitar? This week, Ryan from 60 Cycle Hum posted information that this base model was being offered at an unbeatable price, so I finally gave in and added it back to the cart. What did I have to lose? If it really had stainless frets, I could fix it up well enough for practice and not wear out the instruments I needed for work. The only thing was that it was red and I'm not a fan of red guitars, but for the price, I'd have to be crazy not to get it - if, in fact, it was what it said it was, and if not, oh, well. Well, it came in today. After letting it warm up, I just had to give it a test drive. First impressions were excellent - everything cosmetically was fine - polished fretboard, beautiful frets, comfortable neck, nice matte finish with wood grain visible (even if it's veneer or photoflame, it's tastefully done.) Acoustically, it's loud and I think that's the poplar body. The complaints about the mint green pickguard are, in my opinion, ridiculous - it looks great. Super-smooth neck with a nice edge. Zero buzz and obviously set up from the factory and quite well at about 1.75mm. So, I plugged in. All the controls feel tight and the stock strings are actually pretty good. I started with chromatic runs up and down - nothing, no dead frets, no buzz. Hate to say it, but this hasn't been my experience with either Gibson or Fender, new, out-of-the box. Having to Plek a multi-thousand dollar instrument is a little ridiculous. The tuning was very stable for a cold instrument and stabilised further as it warmed up. No hitching on the bone nut and the tuners are really nice - solid with a good ratio. The pickup tone is very balanced and all the pickups were matched in terms of loudness. Even though these are ceramic pickups, they are not ice-picky. This gave me margin to do EQ to get it where I liked it at the amp. No noise, oddly, and all the controls were quiet. Also, the output jack is on the edge of the instrument, rather than on the top like a Fender or Squire, so the cable is out of the way and if one uses a headphone amp for practice, it should plug right in. You know you have something when you don't need to put it down for hours. Before I knew it, time had disappeared. It is just so comfortable to play. So, knowing I had acclimated to the tone, I swapped to the next nearest thing I had that might be considered to be comparable, a Squire CV Strat. Someone gave me that instrument and I've always really liked the neck and rolled fingerboard. In truth, it's my favourite practice instrument just because it's very comfortable. The CV has brighter pickups for sure and I think that the Eart is more reasonable and balanced and both play great BUT the Eart has silent stainless frets. Uh-oh: looks like the Squire might be spending more time on the hanger in the future! So, I then moved to a Fender Strat with maple neck. Now, I'm a fan of maple necks, but switching between the two had me feeling that I preferred the Eart because although it's rosewood, the surface is polished and just a different experience. Yes, the Strat had a more refined pickup response, but I can always change pickups if I wanted that sound. And after all, one can spend $1500 on a Pro Strat and still want Lollars. The Eart pickups are fine and swappable if one is so inclined, but I think they're peachy as-is. So, for an instrument at this price point, what is Eart trying to do? Lose money? Maybe they're trying to build brand recognition and if so, this is your opportunity to take advantage of that strategy. The fit, finish and feel of this instrument demonstrates to me that Eart not only understands what should go into a quality instrument but that they also have the capability to achieve that goal. What do the kids say today? Respect, Eart! I would go on but I think I'm going to go back out to the studio and play a little more, just because. If you're upgrading your Bullet, or like me, you want a practice instrument that won't wear out, I can't see how, for the price of a pedal, you could possibly go wrong with this instrument. This is obviously constructed to a high standard far beyond the current selling price. And considering Eart have other models, I'm now curious what else is going on, and maybe that's their thinking. Because this one, well, it's a keeper. Is this instrument good for a new or intermediate player? Yes, without reservation. Good for an advanced player? Yes - and stop it now, you know full well that your LP doesn't stay in tune. Do you want to fiddle or do you want to practice? Can you gig with this instrument? Maybe I'm a special case or just lucky but I would say that as-is, out-of-the-box, this instrument is giggable. When I bought a PRS, known for being giggable on delivery, it still needed a little tweaking and that was a few dollars more than the Eart. Really, I'm amazed. There are now more countries when it comes to guitar quality, just brands, and this entry-level Eart is ridiculously good. ... show more

  • Great Guitar for the Money
Color: Virginia
Before I get to the guitar itself, let me talk about the delivery of the instrument. It came single boxed with little if any padding. I was immediately alarmed. It was plain the box had be previously opened and then resealed, because of two different methods and tape colors. When I opened the box, the instrument had two hairline cracks at the heal joint or pocket where the neck slides into the body. I then asked to return the instrument. Amazon was very good about this and sent a replacement and returning the damaged item was no problem at my local Kohls. The new item came and was double boxed, thus further confirming my suspicion that I had originally been sent an item that had been returned by someone else. I don't know who is at fault, but I think it is Amazon. A guitar should never be sent they way I received it, and a returned item just shouldn't be sent out to a new customer without inspection. When I returned the item I used the box the replacement came in so it is double boxed, hopefully they won't send it to someone else..... Now to the guitar. I have a unique perspective because I handled two examples. The one I returned, besides the cracks, had the nut improperly aligned with the neck and there was some play in the whammy bar. The replacement is perfect, so maybe some quality control issues. The one I returned had a roasted neck, the new one I am unsure of (see photo comparison) The fret work on both is nice and seem to be stainless steel. The tuners are very nice and are good quality. The pots are full sized and the bridge is great. It has a push in arm that stays where you want it, and the block is big! The only down side of the bridge is the adjustment screws for the saddles are a bit rough on your hand. The pickups are ceramic, but sound good. The switch is the only cheap feeling component with a circuit board. In short, you get a lot of high quality features on this guitar for the price. The neck also has the spoked wheel truss rod adjustment- and is a compound radius! One thing that really got me was the pick guard. It is mint green and looks very out of place so I replaced it. The neck is the big thing. Is it roasted? The ad is unclear. Are the frets stainless? Again the ad is unclear, but I think they are. If you read the top of the ad it says the frets are highly polished nickel silver. Scroll to the bottom and they are described as stainless steel..... Not being a metallurgist I can't say 100%, but I think they're stainless. The same with the neck. The item description is ambiguous. The first one seemed to be roasted, the replacement less so. See the pictures. Regardless, If you get one in good shape, this is a great bargain. To Eart: use better packaging, pay close attention to quality control. ... show more
