  • Lacks essential vitamins, possibly a scurvy concern even with cherry picking of issues by support
This bumper looks nice once installed. Mind you I am a middle aged man with surgically repaired knees. On most days I can barely walk and on no days can I kneel on the knee without heavy pads and cushions. I mention this because I managed to get this bumper install on my JKU in about 4 hours or so without help, including the time it took to wire the new LED lights, markers, fogs and grill I installed at the same time. Maybe 4.5 hours if you count the time I was cussing the manufacturer for not shipping a device that will hold the bumper flat on a jack to help raise it up in place. I had to rig up a couple of heavy rubber bumpers on the jack hoist to try and make it stay level while raising it in place. I never could manage to do it with the jack so ultimately I throw on one of my many surgical braces and picked it up along with the 13k lb winch I pre-installed. Eventually I managed to survive the weight long enough to get lucky with the alignment and managed the bolts through the mounting holes. To this point my 1st issue was during disassembly of the factory bumper and trying to take out the inside top left bumper bolt. Definitely required a 3/8" swivel head and some leverage. Rest assure, going back on is easier as you can get to the bolt from the top, outside and in front of the jeep. My 2nd issue with the bumper was the terrible approach angle I had to take with a wrench to bolt on the two front facing mount nuts that connect the winch to the winch plate. I doubt I will be able to take off those nuts or even reach them with a fantasy fairy magical wrench should I need to adjust the winch. Oh wait, I already need to adjust the winch because once mounted my 3rd issue arises. The winch is so close to the jeep grill the task of taking off the grill will require me to drop the bumper EVERY time in the future. So that's my 3rd issue (Bumper design forces me to spend more labor on an otherwise easy grill removal. 4th Issue? yes, the proverbial vacuum canister on the driver side at the corner of the mounting plate. Do NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT force your bumper on so hard you slam it into the vacuum canister. In my case the corner actually compresses one of the vac hose connections so i'm sure continued rubbing will cause issues. Thus, I will have to pull the bumper off and figure out how I can gain at least an inch of space for my grill to clear. I can get some of this by buying some spaces to put between the bumper and the mounting holes but this is a bit dangerous considering the amount of bolt I have left to work with is very small and I fear spacing might cause weakness over time. Thus, in my case, with my 13k lb winch I will need to do a combination of things space the bumper, grind the hell heck out of the mounting plate corner to keep it from smashing the vac canister and repaint everything. I would urge EAG to refabricate the winch plate and offer free replacements to us who have the vac can issue as well as the placement issue being too close to the grill. I would prefer longer bolts to work with as all of this goes away if I could put 3 1/4 inch mounting plates on the outside of the mount before pushing the bumper through but there just are not enough threads to accomplish this as it exists. Thus, I'm really at a loss . This is certainly a design flaw but I do so love the company . This is my 3rd bumper from them and 4 other friends took my advise and purchased them in the past so we are obviously happy with the way it looks. This bumper was really the first bumper I've been frustrated with. This thing is beefy. Awesome, heavy duty and it looks great but comes with some baggage. One last issue I had was with the bull bar. The item arrived with rust coming through the powder coat as noted in the picture I uploaded. Its bleeding pretty good and this thing will not last long. I honestly don't see how this made it through any sort or inspection prior to sending it to me. So, if you will no engineer any of the fixes I need, at least, please replace the rusted bull and provide me with a workable solution to save my vac can and get 1" clearance to my grill. I am giving this 4 stars because EAG has always done me right in the past and I know their service will figure something out for me. On this order I did have the rear bumper as well that I will review next time. PS. do you make a tool for getting access to the mounting bolts on the bottom of the winch? Those things are deep within these small area behind a couple of triangle openings. They were a real pain. Please tell me you make a special tool for this. ... show more

  • Seems fair, not for OCD people concerned about quality/details
Just finished installing. This bumper seems somewhat okay for a cheapish Chinese bumper. It took me much more time to remove the stock bumper than it did to install this one. I didn't have any shipping/packaging issues. In my case the instructions were in a packet on the outside of the box; bolts and hardware were in a small box inside. If you're unsure how to remove the old bumper just check youtube; there's plenty of how-to's. Total install time for me was about 3 hrs (time added for installing winch/wiring). Pros: Looks okay; fits so-so. Doesn't quite center left/right on my jeep, but it's only off by 1/2 of an inch so nobody will really notice. Cons: Ugly welds on the bull bar and seams. The brush guard on mine wasn't straight; bends were at different angles. My light bar ended up not centered because of these issues. In addition, the fog light mounts were welded on haphazardly. They're not straight, leaving the fog lights pointing slightly off in odd directions; they look to be only loosely eyeballed for level. A note of interest for anyone considering using their factory fog lights (one of the reasons I got this bumper): My wiring harness could not reach the lights on either side since their mounting location has moved from close together in the center to farther away from each other, outside of the headlights. I needed 12 inch extension cables for them to work again. (6 inch extension harnesses were too short by about an inch and half). If you are adding a winch, it must be done before you mount the bumper. The bottom of the bumper is covered so you can't thread bolts through the winch plate area from the front. The mount holes are only accessible through the rear, so it's got to be off. Same thing with the fairlead plate. So installation order is: fairlead plate, winch, then hang the whole thing put on the jeep. I didn't know this and had to remove and reinstall for my winch. 1 year update: I've had this for about a year now and durability seems fine in my desert climate. No paint peeling or cracks. 1.5 year update: Something I should have mentioned initially: This bumper adds a lot of weight to the front. After I had mounted the bumper and my winch on my JKU Rubicon, there was a 1 inch drop on the front end from original factory height. To compensate, I used a Teraflex JK leveling kit to restore the original stance of the Jeep. The leveling kit was supposed to add 1 inch to the rear and 2 to the front, but with the front springs already sagging 1 inch from the weight, it just restored the Jeep to the original raked factory stance with 1 inch added front and back. I installed the longer sway bar links that came with the leveling kit. That was a mistake; I hadn't added enough height to need them and I ended up with the sway bar rubbing on the frame since the links were too long. (They were made for a 2 inch lift). To actually lift the front end to be level with the rear (+2 inch gain) I used Mopar 68196006AA front springs and one puck from the leveling kit on each side. For those just wanting the bumper and a winch without any lift, the springs alone should handle the weight while keeping the ride height at factory measurements (on a JKU). ... show more
