  • Excellent purifier and fan with great app
Style: PC2 De-NOx
I'll preface this with saying I've wanted a Dyson fan since I first saw their desk model in a store years ago, but their price point has always intimidated me. After finally getting a Dyson vacuum on sale, I started to understand what the hype about the brand was about. Make no mistake, this is expensive and a luxury item for sure, but it is feature packed. It's lightweight so as soon as I unpacked it I was able to carry it upstairs easily. This is good and bad in my opinion. I'm a little hesitant about longevity because of how light it feels, but I've had great luck with their vacuums so I'm hoping that carries to this. Setup of the unit was a breeze and it comes with a remote control so if you don't want to install the app, you don't have to. With that said, I think you're missing out on a ton by NOT using the app, but I'll get there in a minute. I like that the remote is a rose gold color so it's easily found, but wish the buttons had something to make them stand out more, whether visually or tactilely. In dim light there's no way I can see what's what and by touch it's hard. My husband didn't seem to have much trouble though so YMMV. Apparently you can also control it by voice controls, but I haven't set that up and it's through the app. On to the app. Set up was a breeze and it includes a QR code directly on the unit for downloading the app from both stores. You need an account and it only took a couple of minutes to set it up. If you provide your location (just city, mildly annoying I couldn't search by zip), it'll provide ambient data along with what it senses in the room. Our air quality was listed as "Fair". Without any guidance, I tapped on that and it took me to information. Everything on the screen is explained well as shown in the pics. If you enable history, it'll give you a ln air quality report over time, although it's unclear what will be included in that. Within a couple of hours the room quality went from "Fair" to "Good". At night, we used the fan and it has 360 oscillation. It's surprisingly powerful for how quiet it is and did a great job of cooling the room. It's highly customizable with schedules and such, but you can also just set it to "Auto" and let it do its thing. Overall I'm in love with this with just a couple of minor complaints: - I wish I could see a running history in the app. Another smart humidifier brand has that where I can see the air quality for the past 24hrs and past few days, but this doesn't seem to have that - the remote is too streamlined for me to use so the app is a necessity for me personally. My husband doesn't have that issue and prefers to keep using the remote - PRICE. This is the big kicker for me. It's highly advanced, but super pricey, which is to be expected for a Dyson. It's early, but I wish it felt a little more solid. If it helps with our allergies and asthma though, it'll be worth its weight in gold. If you can afford the splurge, give it a try for sure. I'm not sure if the improvements of this model over the "cheaper" one are gimmicky or not, but I did notice the air smelled cleaner in the room this morning and it absolutely felt cooler. ... show more

  • Impeccable Design and Function-Ssshhh goes the Clean Breeze
Style: PC1
This is my first Dyson fan, not our first Dyson product, but the first fan. I'd seen the cool blade design before and thought that's handy and nice. I don't have children in the house, where not having spinning finger shorteners is a plus, but we do have furry kids (they've already sniff approved the Dyson) so the design was interesting but not compelling. Well, now that I have one, it's even more interesting and for the right application, this fan is compelling. I haven't used nor explored the app yet (aye, ANOTHER app?!) but I'm tempted by the info on screenshots. Here's my experience piece by piece: Unboxing-use the side, it's not removable from the top or bottom. This plastic is also aggressive, you'll work the muscles to get the beast out but if you just cut on the side it's much easier than trying to rip the sticky plastic from the top. Do it the smarter, easier way. Once unboxed it's light and foolproof to setup. There's a plastic decal and a remote in a box. Plugging it in, hitting the power button on the front, done. Then, at fan lvl 1 (default), it's not moving enough air so back to the remote, which has intuitive, easy to use controls. Brought it up to lvl 5 and sometimes lvl 6 and it moves a notable, nice amount of air. PM Measure- No, not post meridiem, particular measurement, are there on about a 2" color LCD screen. I had not read much in advance, but that's a wonderful measure of the air filter effectiveness intake and output. It's a temptation to get the app b/c the screen shows PM 2.5 micron, the app measures 10 micron as well on top of other controls. Maybe I'll leave my backwards habits, or at least one of them. Sound Level- I've got a tower fan to help cool the living room and it's eternally notable. I have not set the two fans side by side, but I can tell you the Dyson is significantly quieter. I have the Dyson running at a mid-level fan, 5 or 6, sitting next to a water cooler. By comparison, the cooler's compressor is notable while the Dyson is a soft whoosh that you have to focus on to even hear. The running compressor, which is it's quietest state, is about 3x louder. I'd estimate it's 2x louder than the tower fan as well. This, if you have a small office and would like a breeze while not being a background hurricane on a call or Zoom, is huge. The Dyson does the job incredibly well here. Other Design Elements- I was going to put away the remote afterwards and started visually scanning the entire structure. I thought for a moment, those fools never designed a slot or holder for the remote, and then tried to set it on top to feel magnetic attraction. The Dyson engineers were no fools, they thought about a placement that fits the remote perfectly, holding it firmly in place with magnets. There's carbon filtering in the air filter, for scent control. That's not an issue for my house so I can't attest if it removed scents or not. I'm sure I'd discover more if I read the manual, which wasn't included. That may be a negative but a quick search found it, NP at all, I'd prefer to keep it digital please. Great overall, I'm impressed with the sound levels. If I had a dustier, stinkier house I'd be able to attest to some of the other elements but I'm incredibly impressed at the design, engineering, and quality manufacturing. It's like our vacuum, only it blows...in a great way :) ... show more

The Dyson Purifier Cool PC1 exceeded my expectations. The air feels noticeably cleaner and I’ve had fewer allergy symptoms since using it. The sleek design fits beautifully in any room and the fan offers a cool, gentle breeze. I love the real time air quality display and auto adjusting features. It’s quiet on lower settings and energy efficient. Though it’s pricey, but nice purifier and cooling combo I ever got. ... show more

  • LOVE that the remote attaches to the purifier for storage
Style: PC2 De-NOx
I own several air purifiers and fans and the one thing that drives me nuts is that they all include remotes and I, without fail, always lose the remotes. I get the convenience of a remote, but I wish more products were as thoughtfully and cleverly designed at this Dyson purifier. The remote just latches onto the unit with magnets, which means I'm not trying to awkwardly balance it on top of the unit or stuffing it into my already overflowing remote junk drawer. Apart from that feature, this purifier moves so much air! It's been unseasonably hot this year and this thing is so nice because it blows such a large amount of air in a large swath. Generally I don't set up my window air conditioners until late summer when the nights are too warm to cool my house back down. Instead I use box fans at night to cool my house down, then button everything up and close all my binds midmorning when the air starts to warm again. That works super well for making my house stay a reasonably cool temperature but it also makes the daytime air feel a little stagnant and stuffy, so having a purifier like this that moves a huge amount of air and creates good airflow really makes a difference. Overall, you can't go wrong with a Dyson purifier, whether it's the small floorspace footprint or the large amount of air it moves, you will not be disappointed. ... show more
