  • Inspiring story, well told
Duty Call is a wonderful memoir capturing the life of Dr. Antonia Novello, with Jill Tietjen as co-author. They are both highly accomplished women, extraordinary leaders, and trailblazers in their respective fields; and this collaboration is very well done. We discover the values that formed the basis for everything Dr. Novello has done throughout her life: always do the right thing, exercise patience and wait for the right time to act, display loyalty, adapt to requirements or constraints, and speak up for yourself. We also learn the barriers she faced as a woman and as a Hispanic - and how she overcame them. If you enjoy biographies of strong women, you are sure to find Duty Calls a fascinating, compelling read. ... show more

  • Self prophecy book vs. admission of lessons learned
Unlike the name of the book suggests, the book lacked some, if not at all, detail about what lessons Dr. Novello learned aside from self description of how perfect she is, didn't /can't do anything wrong, her only fault was to trust people around her to cover whatever she does regardless. She got convicted. Understand the need to use your past mistakes and turn them into cash but let's not call it "lessons learned". Perhaps you should not have used state $s and staff for your own benefit? ... show more
