Description

An exciting and entertaining new book, 100 Foot Wave: Kingdom of Hawaii, has recently been made available, enabling all surfing fanatics and landlubbers alike to climb into the psyche of death-defying giant wave riders and their relentless ambition to surf the largest waves Earth’s oceans can spawn. Authored by twin brothers Milton and Michael Willis, themselves balls-to-the- wall giant wave riders, 100 Foot Wave: Kingdom of Hawaii, delves deep into what drives men to risk their lives for the thrill of surfing perhaps the largest waves ever attempted. Chapter by thrilling chapter, the Willis Bros take you through not only their personal development in becoming giant wave riders, they cover the history, culture and unique art of those that embrace this extreme sport, as well as big wave surfing legends Laird Hamilton, Buzzy Kerbox, Garrett McNamara, Ken Bradshaw, Ace Cool, Mark Foo, Peter Mel, and Taylor Knox, to name a few. As you read on, you will learn about heart- clutching big wave wipeouts that reside in the “House of Pain”; surviving treacherous rip currents in churning seas, and the dramatic Code Black Waimea Bay rescue of Titi Kinimaka by Carl Palmer and Michael Willis. Of course, none of these extreme big wave surfers could even dream of paddling out in such conditions without the physical and mental training it takes to ride these fast moving, monster walls of water. The Willis Bros address this most critical subject in the chapter “Now, Mind/Body, Body/Mind Unification”. Whether you aspire to become an extreme big wave surfer or stoked just to cruise small beachbreaks, there is great value in absorbing the information offered here. Published by The Surfing Authority and dubbed “the Iliad, the Odyssey, and the Bible all rolled into one”, 100 Foot Wave: Kingdom of Hawaii was written by the Willis Bros in the true Spirit of Aloha, resulting in an important and classic literary contribution to the world of surfing. Thus far, rave reviews have come pouring in from across the planet, validating the Willis Bros hard work in putting this book together. “I just finished your book. It’s right up there with the best things I’ve ever read about surfing. Caught Inside by Daniel Duane, Barbarian Days, Tapping the Source, 100 Foot Wave...Sensei..respect to you and your brother.” —Matt Cunningham, “Michael Willis and Milton congratulations, good job boys! I Love it!” —Rory Russell, Pipeline Master “Michael and Milton; two of the most positive surfers back in the day when we were regulars out at Sunset Beach! Thanks for spreading the Aloha and expanding surfers’ minds!” —Rym Partridge “Awesome, Inspirational and Nostalgic. Excellent work!” —Benny Shapiro Read more

  • That was a fun book to read!
Format: Paperback
I really enjoyed reading this book. I’m no big wave surfer, but reading about these epic surfing stories like Ace Cools leap of faith, the Willis Brothers discovering Devils Garden, and Code Black was awesome to read. And then to learn more about other great surfers, the ladies of big wave surfing, insane wipeouts, the radical rescues, their board designs, ocean safety, Hawaiian words, etc., was really a treat and a pleasure. They should make a movie about this book. I recommend adding it to your mandatory reading list…. Enjoy! ... show more

  • Big wave surfing -- North Shore of Hawaii
Format: Paperback
Great book, easy read. The Willis brothers share their experiences on surfing the outer reefs on some of the largest days in modern history. Very enjoyable. If you surf or follow it, get the book, then watch the video on YT-Biggest Wednesday: Condition Black to see some of the footage and interviews. Some of the guys had been waiting 20 years to see conditions like this. Only a handful of the big wave surfers would go out. The Willis brothers were two of them. ... show more

  • The impossible was done.
Format: Paperback
This book was easy to read. Every chapter was filled with excitement. I loved the Hawaiian words that were used as well as the spiritual references. The reader will be inspired by the courageous surfing performed by the Willis brothers using only their boards on the massive Hawaiian waves. Enjoy the read. ... show more

  • it’s OK.
Format: Kindle
Yeah, so as far as being an interesting read( not) I read it since it is included with Kindle Unlimited. There will always be controversy about who was the first, or the best or whatever. I prefer if people don’t tell me how they “ rule the world “, in this case, of big wave surfing. Dream on boys, you’re pitching the glory of days gone by. Good 4U & Good Luck! ... show more
