  • Great addition to my Grizzly 1023RLW. Instructions and photos to show modification technique.
I purchased this for my Grizzly 1023RLW and am very satisfied with how it performs. Some fine dust particles do settle near the blade guard, however no more dust ends up on my shirt. Additionally, the amount of dust that does settle near the blade guard is minimal. I use a dust collector on the cabinet's 4" port and a separate shop vac for the Saw Stop blade guard (I think using my 2HP dust collector for both is asking too much of my dust collector, however I have yet to test it). A modification had to be made in order to attach the Saw Stop blade guard to the Grizzly - here is what I did: 1. I detached the Saw Stop blade guard assembly, including the pawls, from the splitter. Before you do this, take a picture of how the pawls and springs attach, otherwise it could get very confusing when you are trying to reassemble everything). 2. I overlaid the Saw Stop splitter onto an 1/8" piece of plywood (use whatever works for you here... cardboard, paper, etc). I traced the splitter's profile onto the plywood, including all notches and holes. When you do this, you will have to cut or drill a small hole on the template in order to accommodate for the pawl stop ( the little piece that sticks out and prevents the pawls from moving past a certain point... I made the name up but you'll see what I mean when you look at your splitter). 3. I cut out the plywood using a scroll saw and a drill for the holes. 4. I overlaid the plywood onto the Grizzly's splitter (don't use the riving knife, use the splitter that the saw's blade guard attaches to). I aligned the hole I made for the pawl stop with the pawl stop on the Grizzly splitter. I then aligned the notches for the mount. SEE PHOTO! I then traced the template profile onto the Grizzly splitter. Side note - I decided to modify the Grizzly's splitter because I did not want to do any welding or mess with the business end between the mount and the front edge of the splitter, however others have modified the Saw Stop splitter and it worked for them. Grizzly sells the replacement splitter for $17. 5. I used a hack saw, a jig saw and a sanding disk to cut and shape the TOP ONLY of the Grizzly splitter to match the profile of the top of the Saw Stop splitter. I used a drill to drill the rear mounting hole. The existing hole in the front of the Grizzly splitter matched the hole position on the Saw Stop splitter. SEE PHOTO! 6. I reassembled the the Saw Stop blade guard, pawls and all, onto the modified Grizzly splitter. I ended up removing the right side long pawl due to some of the teeth catching on the gap between the throat plat and table stop, but I am OK with that. ... show more

  • Using on a Bosch 4100
I bought this for my Bosch 4100 knowing I would have to heavily modify it. I really like the Bosch, but dust collection is poor. It's a jobsite saw so that is to be expected, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. There are a couple of alternative dust collection guards/systems out there, some of which wouldn't require nearly as much work, but I felt this was the best solution. It is costly, but once you start cutting in the riving knife, you get an idea why. It is a pretty decent grade of stainless and is quite annoying to cut. I used a cut off wheel followed by a grinder to make all of my cuts. In all it took about an hour to do. I also had to put a small slot in my zero clearance insert to get past the pin installed on the knife (for the kick-back springs). I plan on welding to spring together and installing wing head screws to make it easier to remove from the riving knife int he future. I can't rate this anything less than 5 stars because I'm not using it as intended. But regardless, it's a nice purchase. See the attached photos for my take. ... show more

  • Mostly positive with caveats
Pros: -Greatly improves dust collection at the blade with some caveats 1) Best suction requires air velocity, in my case 1.5” hose from a Festool vacuum as central dust collection with 4” to 1.5” adapter provides air flow volume, but not enough velocity 2) Does great on cuts that protrude past the blade, (about 3” or more) but not great on narrower Cons 1) A bit flimsy. Would most likely break if dropped 2) as with any blade guard, feather boards will obstruct push sticks on thin cuts 2)Overpriced In summary, as in life, nothing is perfect, including blade dust collection, but overall satisfied with purchase at $150. ... show more

  • SawStop blade guard
While SawStop doesn’t take the time to check fit on the various table saw manufacturers I decided to take a chance on my machine which is a Bosch 4100 Contractor model. That said, I disassembled the blade guard and ground the rear and front portions of the knife body to accommodate the blade cavity of the Bosch. The tricky part is reassembling the guard, but the results are worth it. A great dust collecting guard; not perfect, but much better than without it and, as another reviewer mentioned, no more sawdust on your shirt. ... show more

  • Noticed no improvement to table saw dust while using
After a few hours on the saw, I couldn't make this dust collector guard work. I saw extremely minimal, if any, improvement to over the table dust. I have a 2HP collector that I ran a 10ft hose directly into the guard. I used a rubber hose adapter that fit snugly onto the guard's port and even clamped it down with pipe clamps. With the saw off, I felt inside the guard and did feel some suction but it was very weak. This is the first Sawstop product I have been disappointed with. I will be asking for a return. ... show more
