Easy to use to sand bowls turning on the lathe. Comes with extra sanding pads, two sizes, from 60 to 320 grit. Pads are easy to put on but are velcroed on so a little tough to pull off, which is good because they won't come off while sanding. Only used the sander a couple times but very satisfied so far. ... show more

Dura gold sander well made and comfortable in my hand. I liked the replaceable soft foam pad that makes sanding sensitive in tight spaces or curves. I hope I can order replacements when mine wear out. Maybe kit should include extras. I would definitely recommend this tool to a friend. Pat

    • Oh goodness, now I need a lathe!
The product is exactly what I expected and will do exactly what I need it to. However, I had no idea that tools like these work best when used in conjunction with other tools. I learned this by reading the enclosed product information, which stated that this tool should be tilted at a certain angled degree while the bowl (product being sanded) is being spun on the lathe. The lathe? My inexperience shines in the following statement: “oh goodness, now I need a lathe”. It’s always nice to learn something new, sometimes it really is an unexpected surprise. 😳 👆 The upside; I can absolutely still use my new sanding tool, by hand as I had imagined and doing the best I can; while looking into finding the lathe. 👇 The downside; the replacement sanding pads wear out differently, much faster with the inconsistent pressure and motion of a human arm and hand. (Tool logic) The lathe isn’t as hard on the pads because it remains at a consistent speed making it easier to maintain consistent pressure. That hadn’t occurred to me. Learning the hard way is a great way to dig a line in memory, here we go! I got the tool to smooth the inside of birdhouse gourds for use as bowls, bird feeders and canteens. It’ll do nicely with or without the lathe, but better with a lathe! 😉 ... show more

I purchased this for sanding the inside of smaller bowls on the lathe. I found that I ended up not using it that much because it does not work particularly well on smaller bowls. It is just much easier to just hold the sand paper with your hands. Would not purchase again.
