Didn't seal it from rain, but worked temporarily for my cracked rear light that was missing part of the red plastic. Made the rear light look all red even when lit up with out any blacked out area. This tape works well. It will look a shade or so deeper than a typical red plastic taillight lens in daylight and a bit darker at night, as it is not reflective like an actual taillight. For a broken off piece or crack, this is a perfect long-term solution until you replace the lens. If you lose your whole tail light lens as I just did when someone read-ended me, this kit still suffices but lot's of lenses are large so in my car, I used the entire kit (6 feet) to cover my old 2001 Volvo S60 tail light. It is effective when your tail light is on, as well as when you apply teh brakes, so it makes it safe enough to drop it to the shop, or use it temporarily. The tape seems to adhere very well, so it doesn't sag or come off. I have my car outside so it was very cold and it rained the other night and it's still OK. I was kind of sloppy on my edges as I am replacing the tail light assembly in a few days, but see photo for general idea of how the tape looks. I just wanted to make it drive- able without getting a ticket for no taillight. ... show more

Got a big hole in the tail/brake light of my wife's car and tried red cellophane taped to the light. It blew off so I searched Amazon and found this tape. Cut a large piece off, covered the hole and then had the wife start the car, use the signal and also step on the brakes. The tape worked like a charm, the lights shine thru it and it covered the hole completely. Keeps the rain and bugs out. Still sticking even after a week of rain. I tried to deploy too-bright-white LED lights in place of low-brightness incandescents, for "TAIL" lighting, not BRAKE lighting. (Brake lights must announce LOUDLY, by comparison.) I took one of those LED white lights and neatly encased the lighting half in this red tape, so that it would not unwind or come apart. Then I installed it as a TAIL light. Voila! I now have a medium-bright red tail light, in LED format. It's acceptable as modest tail lighting, not competing with brake lighting. ... show more

This is great red light tape. I may use it for broken tail-light(s) some day so I'll keep it in the trunk. I mainly purchased it to get a head-mounted-light turned into a red colored light for astronomy work. The tape does a good job. The tape makes the white light red very nicely...maybe about 10-20% darker red than wanted but still great. ... show more
