  • Great full size student set!
Size: 22 inch Color: Blue
The media could not be loaded. Drum sets can be very expensive (thousands of dollars) or the very cheap models can be very bad and disappointing. This set strikes the balance between usability and features and affordability. The set is well constructed out of real wood and is quite attractive. This is a full size set, not a toy or kid set, and I am a proponents of kids (unless they are really young) to learn on a full size drum set. My son (and my cat) assembled the set without even watching the manufacturer video on Amazon, and he thought it was easy to assemble despite the single sheet of instructions (but again Eastar has a video right here on Amazon). It took him about an hour to assemble. I have purchased several Eastar instruments and I love their level of attention to details, like providing a few extra bolts for assembly. The kit comes with a throne (that's what drummers call the stool they sit on :) ), a set of sticks and a drum key for assembling and tuning it, so you're ready to play after assembly. The heads (the plastic "skin" that you bang on) are good general purpose ones. Drummers can get "religious" about what heads they prefer, so once you become more proficient you may want to change them for the type you prefer. In their item description, Eastar seems particularly proud of the snare drum, which is often the weak point of cheaper sets. It does sound quite good and has great bounce and clarity. The snare stand is well built and provides a comfortable angle. The snare drum skin is textured rather than being smooth, not sure if it's part of the snare sound design? it *might* get dirty faster? The cymbals are also good beginner cymbals. Once you know what you like, you may decide to upgrade them to more professional ones, but this entire drum set is cheaper than what some cymbals go for and sound much better than the "pots and pan lids" that came with another brand's cheap set a friend got last Christmas. All in all, a great value for the beginner (why spend thousands if you're not sure you're going to stick with it) but also a potential set for the gigging musician that doesn't want his expensive set to get damaged when playing at a bar, or needs a second set for the practice space. ... show more

  • Great Beginner's Set/Open Mic Set
The media could not be loaded. This is a really nice beginner set for people to learn drums on. Since it is sold as such and does so well, I'm giving it a 5 out of 5 stars. It comes with everything. Snare, bass, rims, heads, sticks, drum key, bass drum pedal, hi hat pedal, hi hat cymbals, and the throne. A very good deal. I bought this not as a beginner. I bought this for a light weight small set to take to small open mics and gigs. The price was better than the more known name brand's similar set. Either way I would swap out the heads. So why spend that extra money on a brand name? I don't plan on using the hi hats, the hi hat stand, the throne, or the bass drum beater. I figure I'll use my good ones. The bass drum pedal isn't bad, though there are some pokey parts that wouldn't fun to play bare foot on. The hi hat stand is ok. The throne is made for younger people and is wobbly for people my size. The heads that come with it aren't too bad. You just have to tweak them to sound good and put a towel for dampening in the bass drum so that it doesn't ring too much. I plan on swapping out the heads later on for the bass drum. Snare heads are actually fine as is. I'm very happy with my purchase! The video is everything from the box. The only thing I added was a towel inside the bass drum. ... show more

  • It’s all about preference but great for beginners and learning
Size: 22 inch Color: Black
This is a perfect drum set for beginners. It wasn’t easy to assemble and the directions wasn’t very clear. To be honest it needs maybe a small booklet with the instructions and a few diagrams to show you things. I think this could be a little cheaper in my opinion. The outer shell or whatever is nice quality, however the drum pads itself are very cheap feeling and bend and crease at the slightest touch when assembling. The stool is very hard as well so I don’t use it. The kick drum or bass drum whichever you call it sounds awful but all the other drums sound ok. This is a drum set for beginners and if you want a professional sounding drum set this is not it. But if this is just something to learn on and practice then I would recommend. I only got this one because I am a beginner and learning to play for church and this isn’t the drum set I’ll be using at church. The drum set at church sounds a whole lot better but this one will help me when practicing at home. It’s all about preference and for now this is great for me. ... show more

  • Junior size beginner drum set
Size: 16 inch Color: Blue
The media could not be loaded. 7 piece drum set. The kids are pretty impressed! About 12 years ago we bought a little cheap drum set. It cost maybe 30 dollars and lasted a month. This is a full sized, considerably better drum set! As a young couple there is no way we could have afforded this back then, so it is on the higher end for a young family on a budget. (Note: Eastar does make a simpler set for half the price) But, now as a homeschool family, the price is what I would expect for my kids to be learning on for music class. You definitely get a very good value for your money! It took about 2 hours to assemble with the help of two of my kids. One thing I would say is to make sure you run your finger around the bass drum rim and tom tom before placing down and tightening the drum heads. When I did the first tom tom drum head I didn't check and a little wood fleck or grain pressed into the head. It'd be awfully easy to puncture the head as you're focused on tightening evenly. Also make sure you tighten according to the pattern on the back of the instructions for a good even tension (my teenager pointed that out to me). The Hi-hat cymbals are tricky to understand. Sandwich the top cymbal between the felt and screws, similar to the crashing symbol. Then, rest the lower cymbal on the larger felt with the plastic screw to keep it from jumping up. Then, adjust the pedal height to what you prefer. In the photo and video is my 6 yr old for drum size reference. It seems to be a good buy for a 6 yr old - young teen. I think even I could sit in a adjustable desk chair at this set and learn some drumming patterns. I'm very pleased with our purchase! It is a solid entry level junior set! ... show more
