  • Dremel Quality-
Style: Original Kit
Just what I wanted. I have the cordless tool mounted in a table vise with tool holder option and a flex shaft attached. It works perfect for carving a wood duck at my workstation. Great power, long lasting battery, and Dremel quality. What more does one need!

  • Definitely worth the price.
Style: Original Kit
Very nice tool to have for anyone that does maintenance work in housing. Battery life is great, and adjustable speed is very nice. Good tool to have in the bag, at a reasonable price. Add a $15 bit kit from Harbor Freight, and this tool becomes incredibly handy.

  • Good upgrade from an older model
Style: Original Kit
I used the same Craftsman rotary tool for 30+ years and went through several sets of brushes to keep it going. It was a good tool but I wanted an upgrade to latest technology. This new cordless, brushless Dremel is sweet. Immediate stop with off switch (the old tool had to spin down to a stop), the nose cap has an integrated wrench for the collet (no need for that little wrench to change bits), it maintains its speed even with heavy pressure (the old tool would slow down and stall under pressure). And of course the obvious, no cord and no more replacing brushes is a plus. It's bigger and heavier then the corded one, but that is what a battery does to it, its a trade-off. But, I was able to use it for some cutting and sanding without too much fatigue in the fingers, and didn't bother my wrist at all. So will this new one last 30+ years? All I did to the old one is replace brushes three times at $3 each set. Will this battery last 30 years? Will a new battery cost more than $3? Will they still make this model battery? The old one was just a motor and a simple variable speed control circuit. The new one has and electronic speed controller to generate the rotating magnetic field for brushless operation. How is that electronic speed controller going to hold up over time, or will I need to change out a circuit board in the future? But the model 8250 has a limited lifetime warranty so that's good. I'm probably comparing apples to oranges, but it is interesting to think about. Definitely a good upgrade. ... show more

  • This is an amazing tool
Style: Original Kit
This is an amazing tool. The last Dremel tool I bought has a cord and the motor has brushes. I still have it, but this one with the brushless motor works so much better and is more powerful. It runs so smooth and is easy to use being cordless. I'll keep my old one but I am happy that I finally decided to get a cordless, brushless model. ... show more

  • Everyone needs something like this
Style: Original Kit
Bought this to bore out existing holes to bigger sizes and found while it isn't super effective at that with the included accessories, I have found many uses for it since. I think the included accessories make it a good value for the money. Convenient and cordless, well made, comfortable in hand.

  • Decent battery driven Dremel but is rather bulky and heavy.
Style: Original Kit
Powerful battery version of the venerable Dremel high speed rotary tool. I used this where using my 120V Dremel was inconvenient to use. I have a full set of tools etc. to use with the Dremel as the ones provided with this battery driven tool are minimal. Pros: 1. Well made. 2. Provides same facilities as the 120 V tool (but does not fit the vertical drill stand). 3. Batteries provide a reasonable life. 4. Easy to use. 5. Nice case with minimal starting tool set. 6. Batteries charge quickly. Cons: 1. Heavy and bulky when compared to the 120 V tool. 2. Minimal tools provided with the tool if you are new to Dremel. 3. Speed control does not go from 0 rpm, once powered on the tool is running at reduced revs. Summary: Recommended with the proviso that this is rather large and heavy and not as easy to use on small projects. ... show more

  • Great replacement for my tired and old 3000 series
Style: Original Kit
My old AC direct drive brushed motor 3000 series is on it's way out (ton of high load use, the brushes are done, the stator has a crack, just overall done for. I considered another AC unit, but I found the 8000 series, which is driven by a 3s INR (I believe, may be IMR) and utilizes a brushless motor. I have around two dozen major 60v+ power tools that are driven with brushless motors, and I have designed/built numerous systems, vehicles, etc. using precision drive brushless, it's the way to go in almost every electric drive application. The 8250 (consequentially, 8150 and 8350, too) is a very good replacement. Delivering substantial torque under direct drive conditions is absolutely critical to a Dremel tool, and this system does the job as well as the AC unit. I would say it's an acceptable quality within the price range as far as both performance and general efficiency. Read on for the only perceived con; power supply availability. Battery use is... Okay, considering the power output. I will probably get one or two more batteries; one battery pack means you'll be significantly more likely to deep discharge it at high load, which is almost a worst case scenario for INR/IMR chemistry. While these are protected packs, it's extremely likely they will not enter cut off until around 3.0v/cell. (This is supposition, however, I am a credentialed EE and sys engineer with extensive design, manufacturing, and field work experience in DC systems with brushless drives of all kinds, large industrial applications, small RC vehicle applications, you get the idea. I have a seasoned "feel" for these type of systems.) Additional thoughts and comments:: I will probably build an external pack, maybe two, at around 6-8 amp hour size. The fact that the includes pack is rated at 3Ah is a bit suspicious, even for a top brand nameike Dremel. I haven't opened it yet, however, I would be entirely shocked if this pack consisted of anything other than three 18650 cells. It's likely managed by a displaced core BMS monitoring internal pack temp with a 10kΩ NTC, and individual cell voltages, reporting internal temp via the other contacts you can see on the battery (B+,B-,Temp, C1,C2; C1/2 are used as cell taps mid-cluster). This is sensible design, moving the BMS to the host device, as it makes a significant manufacturing cost reduction on the batteries. Conveniently, this also makes the packs an order of magnitude to rebuild once the cells crap out, or to build a big external pack, even one on a relatively short, DC/test point umbilical using a scavenged pack body. But I digress; this is circumstantial, and personal preference. If you need a DC Dremel specifically for confined space or otherwise where you COULD use an AC unit, this method might be inappropriate. In other words, if you need both tool accessibility and freedom from the AC cord, you should probably get one to three more standard energy packs, as you will quickly burn through the battery, both in energy consumption rate per use, AND overall service life of each pack. The pro of that is you can avoid deep discharge and increase pack life by as much as 50-60% in many cases. Anyways, do your homework on lithium ion, need be. None of this is anything new, it's just much more relevant with high power use modes on single cell series battery designs, and it's considerably more important still when you only utilize one battery pack. Overall, this is a suitable replacement for my high mileage AC source 3000 series, which says a lot. The price point is... Approaching prohibitive. The bundle doesn't really include anything of considerable value. I think it would be an immediate 10/10 if they included two batteries. The OEM battery MSRP is absolutely ridiculous considering the battery management is outboard, it's basically three cells, some wire, and terminals. I'll probably order some third party cheap-o packs, burn them out, rebuild one with quality cells (you MUST have a UHi resistive welder to do this, do NOT try to solder cyl cells, there is an extreme explosion risk), and use the terminal interface on the second with a considerably larger DC umbilical to use with half day projects. Recommended, 9/10 ... show more
