Are you a human furnace? Do anemics and cats glue themselves to you? If you're like me, I transformed into a human furnace due to medication. We thrive without layers/heat in the winter but this backfires because we struggle with comfortable sleeping temperatures. I don't wake up drenched in sweat or suffocating, just feeling a bit warm with an uncomfortable sweat 2-3 times a night. With a $279.99 price tag (queen) I am not sure if the average furnace would be willing to give it a try so I will test it for us. Can you relate? Please continue reading! Pros/notes: * Temperatures in my state in MARCH are around have fluctuated between 20-50F... *** -The first touch was shockingly cool, and temperatures did not rise from friction/petting the material (this means when tossing a turning, I'm not stoking a fire) -AMAZINGLY soft, I don't know how to describe it, I have very plush/dense fur cats, and it is comparable but not the same. It must be what a cloud feels like... if clouds were more solid -I only wake up twice now and without sweat! Wow... I'm waking up feeling at ease with temperatures (I am enthusiastic that this will work well with air conditioning in the summer) -Hasn't produced static (yet) -You won't need a duvet -I would be so happy to get this as a gift though, the packaging is very giftable Cons/Warnings: -I have a habit of "burritoing" myself. DO NOT burrito yourself, think of this blanket as the aluminum wrap to a burrito. It will keep the heat trapped in it with you. -It's so light!! Sometimes I can't even tell if I have a blanket on me and this is very odd if you're transitioning from weighted to this literal cloud -I am NOT menopausal; I would never attempt to try this for relief. The brain will likely be more powerful than the blanket. Under normal circumstances, I would hesitate to buy this for myself because worth and personal experience are both relative, it's still a coin toss and this is very expensive. I am one of those people who sleeps hot. I have gone to extreme lengths to sleep as cool as I possibly can. I have learned what type of sheets to buy to stay cool and they work to a degree, at least initially. I have also learned that most bed products that say they are cooling really only have a momentary cooling effect if that. This blanket from Dream Valley® is in a category of its own. It works to keep me at the proper temperature and it does it all night along. The outer fabric is super soft and feels chill when you touch it. More importantly, once under it it slowly warms up to a proper temperature and holds it all night. Since it is still cold here and I do keep my bedroom very cool I was concerned that this comforter would not be warm enough. It is thin. I had been sleeping with a big, fluffy, breathable down comforter and thought that this comforter from Dream Valley® might not be enough. No worries, once in bed and under it it warmed up just enough for me to sleep comfortably all night. The final vote for this comforter came from my cat. She will usually not sleep on my bed and really hates my previous comforter to the point that she won't even walk on it. When I put this one from Dream Valley® on the bed she had to at least check it out since it was new and different. Next thing I know she is sound asleep on it. She has been sleeping on my bed regularly now. This blanket does have a higher than-typical price for a blanket but the price is in line with high-quality comforters and sheets. After using this comforter it is easy to justify the price as it works and works well. If you are questioning if this Dream Valley® comforter would work for you go ahead and order it. After letting this comforter air out for a couple of days, I gave it a try. It is simply amazing. It is lightweight, extremely soft and comfortable. In my measurements, it is the same temperature as ambient room temperature but feels cooler to the touch. I wondered if it would be too cold as my core temperature cooled down during sleep (this is normal). The answer is: It does not. However, it does not get overly warm and uncomfortable in my mild climate (never below 68F or so). I wondered how this is possible. So, I did some searching and found an actual NASA website page that explains how this material works. You can read some key paragraphs from the NASA explanation of how this works below. “Beginning with the very first set of Outlast gloves, each Outlast product contains a lining that continuously interacts with the unique microclimate of the human body and the environment to moderate temperature from being too hot or too cold to being just right. Traditional clothing systems trap heat in during high activity. The human body naturally sweats to cool the skin, reducing the ability of clothing to keep the body dry and comfortable. Outlast technology, conversely, will keep individuals comfortable by absorbing body heat when too much is created, thereby diminishing the amount of moisture in their clothing. The clothing essentially stays drier and maintains its effectiveness. A “comfort zone” can also be sustained in cold- weather environments, as Outlast garments will release stored heat back to the body when it begins to chill or shiver.” “Within the Outlast products there are millions of microcapsules called Thermocules® that recycle stored energy by absorbing and releasing excess body heat to balance temperature. To insure durability against the rigors of everyday wear and tear, phase-change materials are placed into these Thermocules, which are very much like miniature ping pong balls, but much smaller at 1/2 to 1/20th the diameter of a human hair. Not only are Thermocules small but their shells are very stable, since they are made to be inert and not melt.
