Description

With a sturdy, lightweight zig-zag sole with extra platform height, the blaire sandal by Dr. Martens has tons of classic doc's attitude and hard wearing durability — and is 100 percent vegan. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

  • Comfortable and stylish no rubbing
Size: 8 Women/7 Men
Love these sandals, they are so cute and stylish. They don’t really bend when you walk, but this is obvious by the style of the shoe, but I still find them comfortable to walk in. No pain or rubbing which I was worried about from reading other reviews. Many reviews suggest to size down and glad I did. I wear a size 9 in every shoe I have purchased in the past 20 years so I was nervous if these would fit but the size 8 fit perfectly. The middle straps were tad bit snug at first but after about a couple of minutes walking they loosened more and feel perfect now. I was worried about sizing down since I have kinda wide feet, but they fit great. These are my first Dr Martens and in my opinion they are good quality. Very happy with them. ... show more

  • Bigger than expected but still comfortable
Size: 9 Women/8 Men
They fit bigger than expected but still worth keeping. Im a size 9 but probably could have fit an 8.5 better. I've had these shoes for about half a year and I've never had blisters from them. They're comfy. Just be careful walking in them at first, because they do have a bit of a platform to them. I went on hike while wearing them, and they were still comfortable and kept my feet from getting dirty. ... show more

  • Definitely worth it
Size: 6 Women/5 Men
** Updated December 10 ** While they have been put away for the season, I needed to make sure I updated. After I purchased these, they NEVER rubbed my heel or gave me blisters except once. I had been walking around downtown for an hour and it had been 90+ degrees and I was very sweaty. Otherwise, I wore these mostly everyday over the summer for work and everyday wear. They still look great. Can't wait to bust them out of the closet again. Original Review: most important note about size : everyone saying size down is absolutely correct. I am always a size 7 normally and purchased a 6. I'm still a little confused on what the 7 would have been like. The straps seem a little tight on my foot which is weird because my foot is not particularly big at all. I would say it's slender. Still a little long for being a six. Like at least an inch of toe room. Look : very cute, have been thinking about the last month but was having a hard time justifying the cost. Love platform shoes a short woman. Quality : initial impression, pretty good. Some concerns on the obvious glue on each shoe. See picture. I was worried the most about my ankles rubbing when I tried them on. After wearing them around my apartment all day, that actually hasn't been an issue. What is an issue is my baby pink toes rubbing really bad already and blistering. You may be able to see I put bandaids on. I'm going to take them camping with me over the memorial day weekend to test them out further. I really do like them I hope they live up their cost, and get "broken in" a little so my pink toes stop rubbing so bad. ... show more

  • Take effort to break in
Size: 6 Women/5 Men
I've had these shoes for two months now, so I think I can give them an honest review. It is true that they run large, I am typically a size 7 and bought the 6 and they fit with a lot of room. The soles are incredibly comfy. However, these take significant effort to break in the straps. I filed them, wore them around the house with thick socks on, heated them up, and wore bandaids when wearing them out. I absolutely love them now but it took a while to get to the point where I cpuld wear them comfortably. ... show more

  • Sizing down is NOT always needed.
Size: 5 Women/4 Men
Very cute sandals. I was dissatisfied with the reviews saying sizing down was needed. I’m usually a 6, but got a 5 after reading several reviews. They were small and need to be exchanged for my usual 6. So do with that info what you will.

  • Great quality, runs a little big!
Size: 8 Women/7 Men
I love Dr Marten brand! They do run a little big. I’m usually 8.5/9 and the size 8 fits perfect! The leather is thick and seems to be good quality. The only drawback is the ankle strap does rub a little on the inside of my ankle but I’m planning on keeping them!

  • Cute little sandals
Size: 6 Women/5 Men
Originally got a size 7 (I am a 7.5-8 depending on brand) but they were way too big, the size 6 fit great. Foot straps are fine, it gets more comfortable to wear once they loosen up. I have a bad ankle after falling down stairs so the ankle strap does rub and irritate it, something to think about. Other than that, it’s a great cute sandal. ... show more
