Description

Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

  • Versatile boot—professional and casual!
Size: 8 Color: Black,
I needed a black leather shoe with no color or visible logos for my uniform at work. My work requires me to travel a lot so I wanted a shoe that would also be my go-to daily wear for civilian clothing (and still look cute as heck). Look no further! This boot is perfect for what I needed. It looks incredibly professional with business casual/uniform and I’ve gotten lots of compliments from coworkers…but it also looks badass and so cute in my daily shorts and t shirt or goth attire! Best of both worlds!!! I am okay with how it feels with its standard insert but It doesn’t have much room to add your own or add any cushion. I got a size 8 womens and I am usually a true 8 but sometimes a 8-8.5 in boots. It’s a perfect size for normal socks and my foot slips in super easily. However it’s very very snug with thicker socks or when I tried my own insoles. Would recommend a size up if you do that. I normally wear insoles with shoes but as stated, it’s too tight to wear with these. However, I have not experienced any problems or noticeable pain with standing all day in these. I wear them almost daily and walk quite a bit. I have scuffed them up and spilt things on them but a quick wipe with a rag has them looking like new. I love Dr. Martens (own quite a few pairs) and expect these to last years. There is no stitching on the boot and the sole is a great size, not super large or bulky like their classic boots. There is a tag at the top of the boot with the Dr martens logo but it is hidden underneath any standard sized pant. I’m very happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Fits an insole
Size: 8 Color: Black,
I wear a size 7.5, and I typically prefer to size up a little in boots, so I ordered the US 8/EU 39. They fit like a true EU 39, which is more like a US 8.5. On they’re own, they’re too big, but with an insole, they fit perfectly. Even though it’s a fairly narrow cut of boot, there’s still enough space to comfortably fit a full-length insole, which is great because there’s no arch support at all. The leather is not quite as stiff as the traditional 1460 boots, and a lot shinier. I’d expect them to hold up to winter weather pretty well. They’re pretty uncomfortable at the instep where the leather seam meets the elastic panel and where the top of the boot hits my leg, but I think they’ll get better with a break in period. ... show more

  • Love love love
Size: 5 Color: Burgundy Classic Rub Off
These boots are so cute and we’re a great price. Highly recommend! I did size down a size and they are a little snug but I think they will stretch.

  • Beautiful boots
Size: 7 Color: Black,
This is my first pair of Dr. Martens. They are beautiful. My only advice for buying them is know that every pair fits slightly differently. I tried them on in a Dr. Martens store and then bought on Amazon. The ones I received from Amazon were tighter around the ankle than the ones I had previously tried on. I ended up returning these and buying the ones from the store due to a better fit around the ankle. I love them. I found them very easy to break in by just using thick socks and wearing the boots around the house for a day or two. I highly recommend them. I’ve worn them walking miles around the city with no issues. I find them very comfortable. ... show more

  • Nice !
Size: 9 Color: Burgundy Classic Rub Off
I had this boot in the beautiful cherry red color in my cart for a long time hoping the price would decrease enough so I couild buy it without feeling guilty. It did! When I first opened them my first thought was, wow, they look even better in person! And they are a truly beautiful looking boot. BUT, it took about 5 or 6 wears, plus manual stretching of the boots, plus stuffing with paper, plus wearing a protection over my shins, to finally break these in. Now that they are broken in they are so comfortable! They are the perfect size but do fit better with a heavier sock due to the roominess in the boot. I just feel these are going to get better and better as I wear them. I like to wear them with boot cut jeans, but they look great with slim jeans too, and I am pondering wearing them to a casual Christmas party with a skirt and sweater. The color of these just makes the options endless! I am very happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Lovely and seems durable/comfortable
Size: 7 Color: Black,
Bought these boots as a recommendation from a Paris packing list - they are the perfect blend of comfort with style. Although only I'll see them, love the polka dotted interior, makes these "tough girl" boots feminine. Plan to wear them with dark jeans and black leggings with tunics. Could take my days in Paris from casual to dressy, but it's gotten warmer since I bought them, will be saving them for next fall/winter. Only drawback is the leather is very stiff and will take a while before they're entirely comfortable. They seemed they could be comfortable out of the box until wearing them a bit. ... show more

  • These aren't my favorites
Size: 7 Color: Black,
They look great, but they're definitely extremely shiny. I didn't realize how much so until I actually got them. And I've worn them several times now and there hasn't been any give at all. So they're definitely not my favorite pair of docs, or boots I want to walk much in. But for a pair of dressier boots they'll do. ... show more

  • Wonderful Boots! Size down!
Size: 9 Color: Burgundy Classic Rub Off
So I live these boots!!! I’ve been stopped by random people asking me where I got them and complimenting them. They are pretty comfortable, I have some plantar fasciitis issues, so I couldn’t wear them for A LOT of walking, but for every day errands or like a trip to a restaurant they are fine. Just won’t be wearing them when walking my puppy for 3.5 miles! But if you don’t have foot issues like me, you should be perfectly comfort In them! Another thing is they run big. I usually wear size 10 in shoes/boots. I bought a size 9 and they fit perfectly. I think I bought them that size because someone else had a review that suggested that I do that and I’ve happy that I listened to the review! So size down! ... show more
