Description

The 1460 is the original Dr. Martens Boot. Made with instantly recognizable features: 8 eyes, classic Dr. Martens leather, grooved sides, a heel-loop, yellow stitching and a comfortable, air-cushioned sole. Built to last, this unisex boot is forged using one of the finest methods of construction: utilizing a Goodyear welt and heat-sealing it to the sole. The 1460 is made with highly durable leather and sits on an AirWair sole, which is oil and fat resistant with good abrasion and slip resistance. Use Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam to protect the leather and keep your boots clean, soft and supple. Understated leather tames the combat-reminiscent style of Dr. Martens's 1469 Originals 8-Eye boot. Looped pull at the back and signature stitching at the manmade sole. P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history. See more

  • They seem to be doing the job
Size: 10 Women/9 Men Color: Black Smooth
I bought these boots because I wanted something good for the upstate New York winters, but not clunky winter boots that would be awkward to walk around in when in doors. They seem to serve their purpose. The are comfortable to wear all day, and when I need to walk through snow and slush they keep my feet dry (I didn't spray them or anything, they just are water tight. I have not submerged my foot completely). They look pretty nice, the toe doesn't have a big square toe that makes many shoes look ugly (in my opinion), and they came with an extra set of yellow laces. The two cons for this pair of boots is that the leather felt stiff (kind of like raw hide when I first got them. I had expected that since I have read other reviews, but the other pair of Doc Martins I owned came with very much nice feeling leather. I would wear thich socks the first week. The part of the shoe that comes up around the ankle will rub your ankle and hurt a little, it goes away, but until they break in a bit you will want to protect yourself from blisters. Over all, I would recommend these boots for anyone with similar needs to my own, they look and feel nice, and they seem to be hearty. ... show more

  • Call a Nurse. What Happened to Dr Martens?
Size: 11 Women/10 Men Color: White Smooth
I bought these for a costume party next month and they are the perfect shoe for the the look I’m going for however I’ll probably list them on eBay afterward and sell them. I recall Dr. Martens being of better quality. This pair of shoes feels very stiff and cheap, like some China knockoff. The owner of the store that these shoes came from sent me an email saying that “he saw that I received the shoes and that he’s a retired veteran supporting his family with this online store and would I post a 5 star review.” This is the second time I’ve received a request like this from two different vendors. The emails are almost identical. Unless it’s a meal, there is no way I can tell the quality of the product by just removing it from the box. The only reason I can with these boots is because when I lived in Seattle 1991-98 where the shoe to wear was Dr Martens I went through two pairs and the leather was of higher quality. We have gotten to a strange place in America where people rely on reviews where people aren’t even actually using the product but rather looking and reviewing. Most products need at least a month of use before a consumer can acurratley rate a product. So that’s my 2 cents ... show more

  • perfect
Size: 10 Women/9 Men Color: White Smooth
I purchased these to replace my 20 year old docs (only because I lost one during a move, otherwise they were still in perfect wearing condition). while the new boots don't seem to be made at quite the same quality, they are still a good solid boot with nice industrial soles. (if you've never owned docs before, the soles of the boot are oil, fat, acid, petrol, and alkali resistant) It will take awhile to get them as supple as my last pair. when I first tried them on the leather squeaked because it was so stiff. I bought the doc martens wonder balsam at the same time as the boots and went ahead and used it. it worked wonderfully to help get the new leather boot squeak to go away, and helped me start to get them broken in. Overall I still give these 5 out of 5 since the old school quality was well above par, still leaving the current version quality equal or slightly better than the other leather boots of this type that can be found in the market, and you can expect to own these for years without needing to purchase new ones. ... show more

  • Don't buy a whole size down if you a guy, buy your size and purchase insoles
Size: 8 Women/7 Men Color: Black Smooth
I see most of the comments about these boots being to big and to buy a size down are from woman. They have woman fitting 1460 boots which you should buy. I am a guy that wears a size 7 in everything. I went into a shoe store to try these on before I purchased them online because of all these size comments. The 6 was to small for me length wise, my toes were squashed at the front of the boot and when laced up very tight around my ankle. The 7 fitted better, but honestly did feel a little and I mean a little loose, but they are boots which are suppose to have a bit of room they're not sneakers or trainers that can be tight fitting. I definitely would not recommend purchasing a whole size down (if your a guy) you'll kill your feet, you want to enjoy wearing your boots. I've since bought a pair of these online and purchase Dr Marten insoles and they fit perfect. I been wearing them all the time and they now have creases on them and feel so comfy. Very happy with these boots. ... show more

  • Sole durability isn’t on par
I love Docs (once they are broken in, which takes a while). I’d say these are perfect, but it feels like the soles are wearing out quickly. I’m a paramedic, these do get worn and earn their miles...I was just hoping the sole would last longer so I didn’t have to replace them so soon.
