Let's get this out of the way from the top: Doc Marten boots are actually NOT good boots! They use really low quality leather and the soles are heat bonded to the boot. You can not re-sole these boots. Also they have NO SHANK so they offer very little support. They only come in full sizes, so if you are unsure of fit the best bet is to go to a physical store and try some on before ordering. Now with that out of the way... These are the best cheap boots you can buy! Break in is fast, and if you use some mink oil they will soften up even faster. There is a seam across the top of the foot where the tongue is stitched to the boot, make sure you get this area inside and out with the mink oil, and when you put the boots on pull the tongue outward and you should not have that rolling problem some people mention in their reviews. For casual wear and very light duty work. (no construction trades!) these are great and comfortable and offer better protection than the usual sport/work shoe. The yellow welt stitch is just decoration and I just used a black sharpie to get that bit to match the rest of the boot. I generally like taller boots, but these guys serve their purpose well. I've got them laced in white so they look good with a basic T or Ginny T shirt. They only take a low luster shine which is fine for the gym. They're comfortable and suitable for long periods of wear. I LOVE these shoes. I've worn them for work in a kitchen, and now I use them for hiking. Mine are well worn now so I buy some gel inserts now and then to keep them comfy inside but I can tell the sole and upper will last a long time.

A lot of people complain about the break in period for Dr. Martens, but I've not experienced prolonged or uncomfortable break ins with any of my pairs and this one is no exception to that. Comfortable, warm, fits right, love the grip of the slip resistant tread in the snow, insole is firm but pleasant. Hopefully they last a while! ... show more

There is a strip of leather inside the boot above my toe that is very uncomfortable. I had to place a strip of mole skin across the strip for comfort . The rest of the boot is awesome.
