I own or have tried about 3 different red light therapy products and this is my favorite so far. I have a RLT wand and tried and returned two RLT belts. I would avoid the belts because I find the power connectors really cheaply built and they will break if you use it regularly. What I love about this one is that there is a built in battery. I don't have to attach it to a power source when in use. It's super simple to use. There aren't alot of controls other than turning it on and making it active. It's very powerful, with more red lasers than my wand. It doesn't get too hot on the skin but it's very warm. You can target the area by holding against it or use a strap that comes with it. My only problem is the strap is too long to wrap around your arm but not long enough for large waists. ... show more

I watch a LOT of TV shows that feature vets treating all sorts of critters. Every one of them has used a laser therapy to treat an animal's pain and/or healing at some point. Figuring if it was good enough for kitty or pup, it might work for me too, I ordered this unit. Firstly, I was impressed that this rechargeable device came with both the power cord & charger block included. I didn't have to hunt down any peripherals to begin charging it. The directions say that once the power levels drop to require recharging it will take 8-10 hours to recharge, but out of the box it had a nice charge & reached full power after only a couple of hours. The device gave a little beep to notify me when it was at capacity. Does it work? I don't know yet. I followed the directions for my initial session, but though it has 4 power levels & 2 timer settings there was no guidance or suggestions for which to select. I'd've liked to have some ballpark idea of what to choose. (I picked 10 minutes & power level 4 to begin. The user manual gives the following information under "Usage Method"... "Up to twice per day (morning and evening), 15 minutes each time, 7-10 days for one treatment course. After 7-10 days, stop for one or two days, then continue for the next course. Make sure to stay hydrated during treatment." What about eye protection? The manufacturer says it's safe to use, but not to stare at the light. To ease my comfort level, I purchased some protective glasses to wear when doing a treatment. Those run in the $10-20 range. The description on Amazon says to "just turn it on and aim it at the target spot". I did that, though not without some frustration at getting it to activate the lasers & not turn itself off again. Holding it directly against my skin, I felt nothing but a very, very minimal slight warming of the device's laser-side face. Instructions caution against using it on black fur (if you have black fur, I have no suggestions; if it's for your pet then this makes sense) or black hair, moles or birth marks. I'm guessing that's because those things could absorb the laser light & heat up to uncomfortable/unsafe temperatures. There is no mention about cautions for use on more heavily pigmented skin. Finally, here's the "Therapeutic Theory" behind the device as stated in the user manual... "Handheld type pain relief laser equipment is a low level laser therapy (LLLT) device, also known as a soft laser. LLLT is a light source treatment that generates a coherent light of a single wavelength. It emits no heat, sounds or vibration. The laser's energy is used to penetrate the skin and stimulate the body's natural healing processes, by this way, every cell in the treatment area receives the energy to activate deep tissue repair. Laser irradiation can diminish inflammation to edema fluid, accelerate the secretion of analgesic substances and reduce the sensitivity of the peripheral nerves." Ask your doctor. I have found red light therapy helpful in relieving aches and pains, in addition to improving skin conditions like dry patches. So far I have tried belts of various sizes as well as a few handheld lights that are like flashlights. This is my first handheld device with this kind of configuration, and I must say that I am a big fan. It is much more convenient and comfortable to hold for treatment than the flashlight type device. Although the light doesn't seem as intense as the torch style, it has a much larger lit area so you can treat a larger area at once. I also like that it has a digital display to see the time, battery status and intensity level and three corresponding buttons. It is lightweight, and rechargeable with a USB C cable, which is supplied along with the charger block. I have found that this device is much easier to use on almost all areas than my flashlight, and depending on the positioning, I can sometimes use it hands free too. This has become my new go-to redlight device when I don't need a belt style device. This comes with a manual, but I have found that most of the red light manuals are not terribly helpful. It does not include safety glasses, but it is really easy to direct the light away from the eyes even if you are using it on the face. However, if you are using it on your face and you can see the red then I would highly recommend using safety goggles.
