  • Still working okay two weeks post.
Style: 5-Blade
I've had these types of fans before. In fact, I owned one of the original EcoFans over 10 years ago before all these other versions came out. So far, so good. I've had some that lasted for years and others than have conked out in days. This one has been in use on our wood cook stove for more than two weeks already, and is still working fine. It is super, super silent but when it's at its fastest you can hear a little something. But it's not an annoying something, and I can't hear it from two rooms away. This is a sturdy unit. When I was shopping for one of these fans, some were really lightweight. Avoid those. This is over 2 1/2 lbs, as it should be. The main thing you have to be careful about with these fans is accidentally knocking it over or even bumping into it with something (like a pot on the stove) and bending a fan blade. If you do, it won't be silent ever again. These are so carefully balanced that one little whack can mess them up for life. Can't really say if it helps move that much air around, but it can't be hurting any. I like the fact that if our electricity goes out and we can't use the ceiling fans to push the stove heat around to warm the house, at least we'll have this little fan that's not dependent upon electricity to work. Entire unit gets hot to the touch when in use, so before if you have children in the house. Handle/Hook on top stays cool so it's easy to carefully move around. ... show more

  • It takes very little heat to make this fan circulate hot air.
Style: 5-Blade
My criterion for purchase selection was to get one of the heavier fans by weight, thus assumed correctly that it would be more durable which seems to be true. So this is my test in the RV before I take it to the cabin, and tried it out with an iron skillet over a butane stove flame. I turn it on medium high heat and the fan started working in two minutes. After three minutes I turned off the heat and the fan blades continued to turn for more than fifteen minutes with producing hot circulated air for about half that time. Note that the instructions on this fan indicate that fan should not be used on surfaces that reach a higher temperature than 354 degrees, which by reading the other instructions in other languages they specify that the 345 degrees is Celsius which is 653 degrees Fahrenheit, which is not clear upon reading the instructions. With a small amount of research I found that wood, pellet, and coal burning stoves can get surface temperatures ranging from 400 to 900 degrees Fahrenheit in normal operation -- so it would be prudent to monitor the temperature of the stove top when using the fan, and keep the fire low. I was surprised to see the tiny exposed wires in the back of the unit that would seem to be vulnerable to extreme heat as well. My sense is that this would even work over an alcohol burning stove if the temp is kept low, because some of them can reach 2500 degrees Fahrenheit. ... show more

  • Runs on Heat Power
Style: 5-Blade
This is a nice and convivence stove fan. I like that it uses heat to circulate the fan movement. I like that it is very easy to use. I really like that you can place the fan near a heat source and it will start to run. I like that the fan has a metal hook on top to lift the fan when it hot. I like this fan because it does not need any electricity to run. I have gas heaters and this fan work well with my heaters. ... show more

  • Works great, and I like how it uses heat to generate electricity to turn the fan.
Style: 5-Blade
The fan is different than typical “wood stove fans” that I’m personally familiar with, in the sense that the blades are usually propelled by heat (I’m not well versed in the how), but with this particular fan the heat triggers actual electricity which make drives a small motor to make the fan turn. So far, this fan has been great though. Especially when there hasn’t been a fire for a few days, so the residual heat has worn off and we’re trying to warm it up quickly. This fan does the trick of distributing the heat throughout the house. I haven’t noticed a huge difference once it’s going, but that may be because our home is small and doesn’t need a ton of help dispersing once it’s going. I like that the electrical components aren’t obvious, and are well hidden, because I can’t stand when wires are showing, and that it’s a sleek black, which makes it mostly unnoticeable. ... show more

  • Set it and forget it.
Style: 5-Blade
Set it and forget it. The fan works great. Once your stove gets to a certain temp the fan will start blowing slowly. If you get the fire going fast it will speed up quickly. It blows great air and pushes the air quite well for it size. Just be careful not to overheat it and ruin it. Sweet little gadget worth every penny. ... show more

  • Good fan, no bracket
Style: 5-Blade
Misrepresented product. There is no bracket on the 5 blade unit. Otherwise it does blow very nice. Easily the fastest, and hardest blowing passive fan I've ever seen/used.

  • Works like a charm
Style: 5-Blade
Very cool Fan. I use it at work on a propane heater. The heater only distributes the heat at around 2 foot distance. So I added this fan and after about 3 minutes , it blows the heat five feet out. As it heats up more the fan will spin faster and you can feel the warm air around eight feet away. Its super quiet and compact. ... show more

  • Actually Works
Style: 4-Blade
I thought this might be handy for a power outage to help move the heat around from my fireplace insert, however I did have my doubts that it would work for this type of stove. I placed it on the top ledge above the firebox and to my surprise as soon as it got hot enough it started running. As the stove got hotter, it increased in speed. While it does not push wind like a 110v fan would, it spins quite fast and you can feel the wind coming from it. I'm surprised and happy with the performance of this fan. ... show more
