I waited four months to write a review because I wasn't sure this would last. While the kid's interest in it has waned a little, this toy has been loved! Sometimes it starts to respond oddly to the remote, but every time it's solved by charging the battery.

My 3-year-old loves this digger! He annoys the crap out of his mom and I with all the awesome noises it makes though and if you make him turn noises off he says that means the key is off. So OBVIOUSLY it's supposed to sound like we are at a job site all day long! Everything works really well though and all things one might expect to articulate on a real digger do. Hammer hammers and claw claws. Bucket DIGS! Pins for the attachments could be a bit better designed so they come in and out easier and still click in place. As you take them in and out they get way better, but lose positive lock and suspect will come out to easy as they wear and eventually fall out on own possibly. That would be reason for the 4 stars on durability. Rest seems pretty robust for the price and everything has over power clicky clutch stuff so nothing can break under the machines own power easily. My son really loves this and it’s really nice, but the battery and charging situation is really annoying. Wish it was an easy plug in, but you have to take the battery compartment off with a screwdriver, the connection to the permanent battery is hard to detach, and the charger is unique so if you lose it good luck. ... show more

    • Poor Battery Charging Design - Aggravating Noises

I'm reviewing the DOUBLE E Remote Control Fire Truck 10 Channel Water Pump 18 Inch Extendable Ladder Fire Engine with Working Sounds Lights Rechargeable 2.4GHz Toy Trucks for Kids Pros: It arrived quickly. Cons: The battery compartment and removal design on the firetruck is poor. It's a real aggravation for an adult and even more so for a young child. Everytime you want to charge the battery on the firetruck, you have to unscrewed a tiny metal screw out of a plastic hole to remove the battery compartment cover. Then you have to unplug a tedious, tiny connector to remove the battery. Then use your own phone charger with the toy company's special cable to charge the battery. I suspect its only a matter of time before the plastic hole gets stripped out from repeated wear and tear of the metal screw going in and out. A better design would be a USB-C port on the truck just like newer phones use. Then simply plug in your phone charger to the USB-C port on the firetruck to charge the battery. It makes no sense to have to remove the battery everytime you want to charge it. Would you want a phone that worked that way? I think not. The battery cover for the controller uses the same metal screw-to-plastic hole design as the truck. A better approach would be to copy the design used by many tv and dvr remotes. They simply have a plastic clip or tab that you press to remove the cover. After replacing the AA batteries you simply clip/snap the cover back into place. I suspect over time the repeated screwing and unscrewing into plastic will cause the hole to strip out. Then you will need to rig the battery cover with tape or velcro. Maybe its me but the noise this thing produces is aggravating and the ladder makes a loud click as if it were about to break. It's going back. At this price point I expect a better design. ... show more
