These work great, but require good access to the outside sky to detect satellites. Inside my house, the signals are too weak, but after I used a 10 ft USB extension cable to place the dongle near an outside window, my Linux server now sees 12 satellites, with 8 providing a good enough signal to use. You only need a minimum of 3 to accurately triangulate your location. I'm using this dongle to feed hyper-accurate time data to the Network Time Protocol service on my Linux server, so now I have my own personal Stratum 1 NTP network time server, all for the low, low cost of one of these GPS dongles and a long USB extension cable. ... show more

These work at the expected config at 9600 baud but they are a but flaky. I can see JSA sats sometimes, even when reporting directly overhead. I purchased these to host a NTP with 2 separate receivers for redundancy. They seem to lock on better at night, but I haven't been able to get one during daytime. 3 stars because I needed a extension due to sensitivity and because these are very hobby, experimental devices not for use for real tracking or data keeping. ... show more

Works well as long as it has a clear view of at least part of the sky. Doesn't detect a signal indoors very well (single-story wood house) like most of my modern Garmin GPS devices do. Maybe it has to do with being a low-power device. Still quite useful and not that expensive.

I almost didn't buy this or any other u-blox7 dongles because of all the negative reviews complaining about the lack of drivers and it not working with Windows 11. I've tested these dongles now on two separate Windows 11 pro systems (MS Surface Pro laptop and a new Mele Quieter 3 mini pc), and they worked perfectly. No drivers were required, on either system the dongles showed up as new COM ports in device manager. Opened up putty serially, 9600 baud using the COM port reported by device manager and you get a stream of NMEA data. Not sure what else people are expecting from a GPS dongle. The great thing about purchasing a two-pack is you can test both to see if the results are similar... nope... These were not my first purchase or test of USB GPS dongles but was the most disappointing. One of the dongles would not get a fix and had a red led the entire time. I'm just going to assume that one was damaged. The second dongle connected with a green flashing led but could only get a fix if left outside for more than 30-minutes and was on average 10-20 meters off target. The 4 other brands of GPS devices get within 3-5 meters including testing indoors on the second floor of a two-story house.. The other problem was maintaining a fix. I like using the GPS dongles when operating amateur radio digital modes. It helps with positioning and time syncronization. I would not trust these dongles to provide consistant information... The two pack might sound like a deal but spend you money, maybe add an extra $5 to the cost, and buy a single dongle that would be more reliable. OR depending on your use case, ask others in the hobby that are using these devices for a purpose similar to yours what they recommend... Unfortunately, I have learned many times using Amazon reviews as a single source can be a waste of effort and time. ... show more

These modules won't work well without a USB extension cable. Know this before you buy what you think are simply plug in peripherals. You'll need to get them away from the computer because of the radio interference it causes.
