Standard NMEA output so you just need the appropriate software. I used GPS Dashboard on my Mac Studio running macOS 13.5. This uses an older chipset so it's not great at indoor reception, but what do you expect for the price? I'll probably use this unit on one of my Raspberry Pi 4b's.

These work great, but require good access to the outside sky to detect satellites. Inside my house, the signals are too weak, but after I used a 10 ft USB extension cable to place the dongle near an outside window, my Linux server now sees 12 satellites, with 8 providing a good enough signal to use. You only need a minimum of 3 to accurately triangulate your location. I'm using this dongle to feed hyper-accurate time data to the Network Time Protocol service on my Linux server, so now I have my own personal Stratum 1 NTP network time server, all for the low, low cost of one of these GPS dongles and a long USB extension cable. ... show more

These modules won't work well without a USB extension cable. Know this before you buy what you think are simply plug in peripherals. You'll need to get them away from the computer because of the radio interference it causes.

Fast shipping got it holked to a raspberry pi, well for 2 days now i am trying to get the gos to find a signal and lock but no luck yet, been outside and everything it just does not want to connect to the satelilltes. The media could not be loaded. Recieved overnight. 9 hours from order to doorstep. Dell inspiron 3598 - 2021 version notebook (i7,16GB,2Tb Windows 11) plugged into open usb port. Windows 11 found it, installed and immediately ran it on my DeLorme mapping program.I am Sitting in my living room right now and it is seeing 14 satellites and has shockingly impressive accuracy (under 1 meter) Asus G73H ROG (i7,64gb,2tb,Nvidia 1050, windows 10) 2011 version largescreen notebook. This older, but extremely well built and cared for (and well updated) notebook is a great unit as i run SDR dongles and control a mobile command center VHF radio repeater and aprs data to mobiles in the field when needed. Accurate GPS is a must. However, this older i7 intel CPU and chipset notebook historically has occasional issues (due to age - old drivers etc) with PROPERLY installing the CORRECT drivers for newer USB devices. Many times when multiple devices are on the USB hub it will mis identify the SDR / RTL 1090 device and it can either shut the device down, or in rare cases install the wrong driver and then BSOD - to be fair that has alot to do with knockoff RTL 2832u chips not being compatible with actual oem drivers... Plugged in the GPS stick. Watched Windoze install the drivers, heard the bing-bong of a detected usb device being started, 5 seconds later got the red light with green flash every second, opened DUMP1090 and associated mapping software, watched it center the Google map over my location and drivers were installed and it was up and running. 22 satellites total were seen and i changed the baud rate to 921.xxx and opened the u center software and all was fine. Thats 2 notebooks, 1 new and one old that these GPS units plug-and-played flawlessly in. After a few days of using on the two above notebooks and testing on an old windows 2000 pc. Im really at a loss why so many complaints. Even the old windows 2000 machine ran these units. Some advice; If it doesnt work - try a different USB port. Many times for whatever reason a usb plug may be attached to a loaded up internal usb hub (keyboard,Mouse/touchpad/webcam/rgb etc) and generally many notebooks have USB on right and left sides with each being on a different internal hub. Trying a different usb plug may be all it takes to get it working. Also, if you cannot get it to work check irq/com port conflicts. They tend to take the numerically lowest com port and that also can be occupied by the touchpad/mouse/keyboard/webcam/etc. If you have a 10 year old or less windows 7/8/8.1/10/11 PC it should (and will) self install via plug and play. If it doesnt you may benefit from a bios or motherboard/chipset software update. These worked eerily well after reading the reviews. Then u realized many people do not update their OS regularly, and/or have their security settings set so heavy handed that these units wont run regardless due to the older os. Im entirely impressed. For 20 bucks for 2 these have legit the fastest signal acquistion ive ever seen on cheap generic GPS/GLONASS chipsets. Usually with these devices you see the decent specs ans really good operating values and think, well, if its half as good as they claim - itll work...these units are actually better than advertised and the 5 second hot start 15-20 second cold start to lock/signal acquisition is being overly cautious...even indoors cold start they have at least 2 satellites within the first 500ms and are loading several more in under 2.5 to 3 seconds. I plan on mounting one via a usb extension cable inside a roof mounted radome (WX) for the ultimate in unblocked direct to satellite clear view for instant highly accurate GLONASS/GPS positioning alongside my ultra-accurate A-GNSS to augment A-GPS TTFF in less than perfect WX conditions. 10 stars.
